That's always a problem. Untrained service reps who haven't been around for 15-20 years and don't really know the vehicles. Very rare to find a technican who has worked on Infiniti for 20 years. I know 3 out the 92 at 5 dealerships in ATL.

I would expect across US you have the same 3%- 5% chance!

Many NICO members know more in specifics than anyone [except for a few dozen Master Techs around US] at a dealers, members just don't have tools or daily pracitice working on problems.

The 94 AT external filter was never meant to be replaced because it lasted to 100k [the life of the vehicle]. I sure there are a few replacements in US as front end accidents can destroy them............but then again who knows how many have already been used in body repairs? Out of 30,000 cars shipped to US they usually had 1% spares or 300 units somewhere in warehouses.

make sure they wipe out the bottom of the pan real good and the magnets too.

But to answer you question about AAMCO, run AWAY, be afraid, very afraid. I made the mistake of taking a car there once (knowing better) because someone told me this was a VERY GOOD AAMCO.

Go find a good aftermarket mechanic that knows Infiniti or Nissan, doing a transmission flush is not rocket science. I have had my transmission flushed at my local guy now twice and he did a great job. External filters don't need changing unless your having a specific problem.

But trust me AAMCO will find 1000 things wrong with you car besides whatever bait and switch they bring you in for. My old Maxima came in for a $690 repair that turned into a $2500 rebuild which had a "lifetime" warranty. I had 4 problems in the 100k after they did the repair and every time they insisted on repairing something else that was "unsafe" before they would fix there own @#$ up.

That's a damn shame! My first and only experience with AAMCO in Sterling, VA was great! Brought in a Dodge Intrepid because there was obvious transmission slippage and gear engagement failure.

I was fearful the car needed a new transmission because it was a Dodge. After an hour worth of diagnostics, they called me and told me it was only bad gear synchro!! The bill was under $200 so I was pleased.

I would be cautious of an aftermarket mechanic, unless he/she works out of very reputable shop. Ask around for recommendations of an honest, experienced, competent mechanic that knows how to work on transmissions.

The problem is a premium extra heavy duty rebuild kit only cost <$400, but the labor may be 16 hours + removal and reinstall 5-6 hours. The rub comes if hard parts are damaged or it needs a remanned torque convertor or a case............This might add $400-$1200.

With a Nissan remained you get everything needed for a fixed price........they make money on some and lose on others at the rebuild facility in Tennessee.

A local guy has to charge what he has to charge plus more overhead and profit or skip things on your job if he low balls you.

Why most don't quote until disassembly.

No matter how many times EXCEPT for one when I went in for an oil change I can out sad or angry. I was glad to provide any help if needed. But the people doing the oil changes were too proud to ask help from a customer.

So lessons learned:

1. Always do the work you can do. 2. NEVER TRUST ANYONE 3. Find a good shop that can do the work for you and know how to do it.

I would never trust a place with many dissatisfied customers.
