Do any of you guys have yokohama yk580 on your Ms? I have a dedicated set of winter tires and am looking for summer/spring tires. Is there any tramlining on those? If not these what would you recommend?

The YK580's are those goofy tires that you can only get through discount tire, they really push those things. They are an all-season tire, so I would not recommend them for a summer tire type application.

I'd recommend something along the lines of the Michelin Pilot Super Sport. You can't really go wrong with something like that.

They're horrid.

Have a look at the Ventus V12 for your application - They're my absolute favorite summer tire for a heavier, high-hp car, and they actually are rated higher than the Pilot Sports (for a lot less money). Tire Rack carries them at a decent price.

Actually, the V12's aren't rated better than the PSS...

They're ranked 11 out of 28, which is respectable. The PSS is the highest rated tire by TireRack in the "max performance" category.. I have PSS's on my BMW, and they're fantastic.

That said, they offer a great value. In a 245-45-18, they're about $60 cheaper per tire, so I would imagine the percentage of that would be pretty consistent. I've heard some great things about those tires, especially for track use.. It's hard to find a tire that's manageable on the street but can handle track use without a lot trouble.

The hankooks really don't shine in terms of wet traction or road noise like the PSS's do. For someone who lives out in the desert, the V12's would be an excellent choice..

At the end of the day, I don't think there's a tire that will give you outstanding dry/wet traction, road noise, and treadlife.. One of the things I like about Michelin tires that almost no other brand can claim is they're just as quiet and grippy down to the wear bars as they were new, except for hydroplaning of course... most tires lose traction and start getting noisy as they get down in tread.

Many of the guys on my BMW forums run these tires on their cars for track and street, and they work good overall.

I am not going to keep the car for over an year so I need something cheap. Tire Rack has a closeout on Fuzion UHP. Anyone knows anything about those? Should I go the used route?

Don't go with used... in one year, they'll be bald, and you'll get stuck with another bill.

Check out www.tires-easy.com, and TireRack is ALWAYS a great source... although I'd steer clear of the false economy of the tires you mentioned.

You drive a big, well-engineered car. Put proper tires on it. It's a safety issue.

I use YK580 on my commuter car and I've used YK540 prior to these. These tires are strictly to rack up massive mileage. I've had the YK580 on my commuter Mazda 3 for year and about 30k miles and the treads still look brand new. lol. My other set lasted me about 70k miles.

If you are looking for performance, YK580 is not the way to go. On the other hand, if you want LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG lasting tires, these tires last a long time.

I need tires that will get me about 5-7K and still look good when I sell her. The car is driven about 12K miles an year out of which half are on my winter tire set. If I was going to keep her I would have gone for the Michelins and spent $1K gladly.
