Currently, I have a Burgundy 95 240sx. Engine and interior are great but the body has a lot of rust. I'm not a big fan of the color either.

I found myself a Black rolling 95 240sx chassis about 3 hours from home. I was going to there tomorrow just to cut out every single body panel that I need. HUGE amount of welding and labor to follow.

Then the idea hit me. The Black car either no title or a salvage title because it got T-Boned in the back. One of the healthiest parts of my car is the exact spot where the car got T-boned. I was thinking that I buy the rolling chassis (only $100) and swap EVERYTHING over. I'd get a body shop (or I would do it myself) to cut out everything that was smashed on the Black 240 and use my Burgundy one for replacement parts.

One of the things I wanted to do was swap my vins into the black one because it either has no title or a salvage title. Shortly after, the Burgundy 240 would be sent to the junk yard.

I know that just sounds "wrong" but I'm having a hard time imaging a problem. I'm looking at this as one very large replacement part. The engine would be in great running condition. The body would be rust free. There would be no frame damage since everything would be cut out and new pieces welded on. The cherry on top is the car would be black and not bur-gay-dy. Importantly, I would be the legal owner of both cars.

people have been doing this for years. altho its real shady to do this to make a profit, if you are doing it for yourself ...eh... the only big issue is the stamped vin into the firewall, you would have to swap the entire firewall over to look completely legit. my first car was one of these jobs, i wish i would have noticed before i bought it but it didnt matter to me.

oh and yes you would legally own both, but the black car would be 100% illegal, if you went through with this. just the chances of getting caught are pretty slim.
