ok so here is my situation, the owner of this GTR is saying the car is street legal and it has a legit NY title however our local DMV are saying they will not take the title due to it being a 12 digit number...

Do not even think that this car is federally legal.

Federal law trumps state law every time.

The only way that car could be legal is if it's a former MotoEx car. And if it was, it would have all the documentation to back it up and you shouldn't have any issues registering it.

If you want to take a chance on owning a car that is illegal on U.S. roads, by all means, but be aware of the risks involved...

how many VIN #'s are there on a legalized GTR.. from any RI motorex ect.

There are ways to get a car titled and Florida seemed to be the easiest of them all last year and the year before. Maybe Sean will come in and elaborate more as he worked for MotorEx and can probably give you more information on how people get cars titled than I can. I live in Japan so I don't know all the little loop-holes people are going through.

Getting a title in some states is easier than others.

Having a title does not mean its federally legal. It just means they managed to obtain a title.

Unless they can produce DOT and EPA paperwork, tell them to shove off.
