yup it's been done, the biggest issue is the headers, basically nothing fits with the big block, and the small blocks are just so much cheaper and easier to come by and generally can be bored and stroked to match the big block displacment and genrally able to handle higher rev's, also to fit a bib block you have to have a hood scoop and you can generally fit a stock hood on a small block swap, jtr (jags that run) wrote a book about the small block swap into the s30, and even sold the adapters for those too lazy to cut their own, there is an entire community (hybridz.org)dedicated to the hybrid swaps as just about every possible engine has been swapped into the s30 at some point, rotary's, RB's, jag v12, bmw v10, all the domestic v8's, gn 3.8t, 2jz etc

Nobody's done a BMW V10 yet. They've done a V12 though...

Also accept for one diesel swap, nobody has touched Mercedes motors. Or the Jag AJ6.

But short answer: Yes it's been done. No it doesn't handle well. Yes it runs like a raped ape. Answer questions?

saw one at the Atlanta dragway once with a Ford V10 in it, had headers that turned up just behind the front wheels. Sounded like poop

oh and a Viper V10 is in the works, but seems like someone would do a M V10

I just love the sound of a properly built 540 so even though an sbc would be easier I'd rather go hard big or go home. I'm actively shopping for a 260 right now but haven't come across anything worth getting excited over. Anybody know some good places to look other than craigslook?

This is a quick vid on the new twin scroll turbo V8 for the M's. They do a 400 hour endurance test at full throttle (while the enitre drive train is rolled to simulate track G-forces) 7200 RPMs or so it claims I'd like to see a LSX or ford modular do that

as for the search, you might want to broaden your search to all S30's as the 260 was only 1 year the total production number is small while the earlier and later cars share the looks with few minor differences, actually the 280 is a better built chassis

and places to look, zcar.com, and hemmings tend to be decent sources

Cool, I'm going to look locally first as I have a friend-of-a-friend who started a 260 project and never finished (floor and rocker needs to be replaced) and it's under 2000$ so thats good news. If not I'll start seriously looking down south. Something from a state that doesn't have salt would be good

it's also absurdly heavy even with they alloy block. I think the guy was in europe but you can make a few nice Z's for the cost of the motor alone. Seems pretty impractical unless you've just got money blowing out your backside and want to be impractical... imo

yeah the car your both talking about was already posted in this thread several messages ago, but here's the link again.
