i have stock woodgrain interior and im kinda getting bored of it , i would really like to get an aluminum dash kit and install it but only thing i worry about is that it may not cover up the factory wood on the end

so my next option i was thinkin was just to take out wateva has the OEM wood and paint it a silver color

has anyone painted theirs? can u provide pix and wat paint to get?

or if u have put a dash kit over ur stock wood dash , did it cover up all the wood?

i was looking at a guys cardomain page the other day and saw he did what your aiming to do, its an older qx4 but you can get a good idea what yours will look like. Id say paint it, just make sure you practise if you havent painted anything before!

Not a QX4, but my old 350Z. Painting the wood, I would assume its just like painting plastic. I believe the wood is not real wood, but plastic correct? At least the wood/plastic in the QX4 is already smooth unlike my 350Z, so less sanding is needed. I would paint it like I'd paint anything else, sand it smooth, use primer, I think there is a primer made for plastics, spray and wet sand. They used automotive paint on my dash.

thanks Qxxx4 nice ride btw, i emailed that guy with the qx4 to see what he did so hopefully he gets back to me, and teddyNgo nice 350z , the plastic wood dash is smooth so i guess all i have to do is wat u said , sand it down a lil, prime n paint it, did u have ur dash profesionally painted?

i think black and silver interior would look good on my path compared to black n fake wood interior when i got a silver outside

I have no clue what that would cost, a lot of it was sponsored. If I had to take a wild guess I would say something for what you want to do would run about $150-250

Here's what few pics I have of my 01 QX4 dashkit. I went for the brushed aluminum look to match the area around my shifter. The focus wasn't really to showcase the kit so it's not the pics of it. It covers the areas over the dash, door handles, door speakers, map lights, rear cup holders, air vents and probably a few other spots I can't think of ATM.

thanks guys

empty v did u have stock wood dash also like me and covered it with the brushed aluminum? bc i see u still have wood window motor trim on ur door

if it was wood underneath did the dash kit cover up all the wood fully on the outside edges? i always liked the brushed aluminum look and wanted to get that kit too just was told that the kits may not cover over the factory wood completley

One of the reasons why I installed the kit was because I DO NOT have the deluxe model with the extra wood trim on the dash and steering wheel. So I cannot attest as to how much it covers. The company I bought mine from is http://www.nycdashes.com I did it about 4 years ago and it's held up perfectly since. I haven't experienced any fading or de-lamination with the kit.
