Any engines that would be compatible to bolt in with minor or no modifications for a 1st gen rogue? I like to d!ck around and theorize. Just a hypothetical question. But i may do it if its possible.

Not bolt-up. The 2.5 CVT won't handle much extra HP anyway. You could probably squeeze in a 3.5 wholesale (engine and CVT), but you'd have to move a lot of furniture and modify the axles and subframe at minimum. It certainly wouldn't be nuts and bolts.

Nissan QR25DE engine tuning
N/A build

The engine was developed for low end torque, what is evident from proportion rod length/piston stroke. Anyway, if you have decided to increase the power of your engine, you will need to purchase some performance parts. They are balancer shaft removal kit, cold air intake, Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V cams, 4-2-1 header and aftermarket exhaust system. On Sentra SE-R Spec V camshafts are more aggressive and let raising redline to 7,000 RPM. When you install everything, it is necessary to adjust ECU. These upgrades let gaining 200-210 horsepower, nice sound and quite good dynamics.
If you purchase QR20DE pistons, compression ratio will increase to 11.5, and as the result, the power will rise to 210-215 horsepower. It is the reasonable limit, it would be rather expensive to exceed it.

QR25DE Turbo. QR25DET

How to turbo QR25DE? It is not all that simple about it. Stock engine is not suitable for the boost at all, and also connecting rods are quite weak, and pistons may burn through easily. Therefore you will need forged internals. Buy connecting rods Crower 148.2 mm, forged pistons JWT with 5 mm piston ring offset and compression ratio 8.5. It would also have a sense to install oil nozzles for cooling pistons. You should buy MLS head gasket, ARP head studs, Garrett GT28 (or other) turbocharger, turbo manifold, thermal insulation, boost controller, wastegate, intercooler, 3” pipes, clamps, downpipe, blow off valve, MAF, oil feed line, oil return line, fuel injectors 630 cc, Walbro 255 lph fuel pump, 3” exhaust system and APEXI SAFC. Or you may buy QR25DE turbo kit at once, it may be easier.
Thanks to all this about 280-300 horsepower (15 psi /1 bar) will be gained.

I dunno about the turbo, Rogue... anything much above 210 hp is likely to smoke that CVT. I've seen the DET thing done with plenty of older Altimas, but mainly 6-speeds and conventional A/T's. I'd be leery about bumping it up too much unless he uses a beefier tranny.

Hmm, come to think of it, can you bolt the Juke version to a QR? Maybe you know, I don't. But it would probably fit in the hole.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Juke MR16DDT engine is used with a CVT. It's turbocharged, but is mated to a different CVT then the one in the Rogue. The Juke is rated at 188 horsepower, as opposed to Rogue's 170hp. Even if you could boost the output of the MR16DDT engine, and could fit it and the Juke CVT in the Rogue (plus not trash the CVT with a boost in HP), I can't see where it would be worth attempting. :gotme

I've seen 'em both apart, the Juke CVT is definitely built heftier than the Rogue. I presume because of the kick when the turbo rolls on, and the TCM firmware may be tighter as well. Either way, I've seen guys tweak them near 300 HP without burning up. If it would fit in the hole, I'm pretty sure it would improve things.

For a boosted QR, I mean. Swapping the 1.6 would be a waste, you're quite right.

Buy something with a proper drivetrain.

Huge undertaking. The ECU monitors the transmission, ABS, the airbags, the climate control, gauge cluster, airbags, power steering, and a myriad of other functions.

You'll basically need to make sure you get all the sensors and systems off the donor car and integrate them into yours. Just having the engine doesn't help. You'll need the ECU, the TCU, the ABS controller, the full harness, the cluster, the audio/HVAC center stack, and everything else the harness attaches to. If *ONE* sensor doesn't see the values it expects, AND if it sees two values that don't jive, it's limp mode time.

That doesn't even include all the custom fabrication to the mounts and brackets and accessories to make them all fit.

I've been down the road of misery (MR20 into a 2009 Cube) and it was a colossal failure - even with a Nissan GTR Master Tech, a retired Infiniti Master Tech, and three fabricators involved, we gave up after two years and a TON of wasted money.

Don't even get me started on the cheap Chinese plastic crap that is EVERYWHERE on these cars... non-serviceable plastic clutch line with fittings that can only be separated with a $600 dealer-only tool? Nope. Pure crap.

Buy the car you want, and send that thing down the road.
