Anyone using an automatic transmission with their KA24DET engine? I am wondering because I have an automatic, and would rather spend the money on tuning than on swapping to manual, if I go turbo.

Thanks, .

You really think that two hour bump was needed?

The stock automatic transmission cant take to much abuse. You will need an external oil cooler for your transmission. I think its been taken up to the high 200's and been ok.

I cant live without a manual car, you can shift whenever you want and misshift whenver you want. so 5spd the best way to go.

I've driven both and love both. With a good oil cooler and good fluid, assuming the slushbox doesn't have a ton of miles on it, it will hold together just fine. I wouldn't plan on it lasting to long if you're looking at more then 350whp and a bunch of time at the track though. But for daily driving, if you choose the right turbo, the auto will be fun and fast.

The correct turbo choice is very important when using an auto.

Why type of turbo setup would you recommend?

do the 5 speed swap or u will regret it!! take it from experience, i did it , the ka auto will not and i meen will not shift on anything over 5-7 psi of boost. u will have to let out and manually shift it from low to 2nd and 2nd to drive.. it just cannot handle the shft pressure under high boost like 10-15 psi,, itll just hover up around rev. limiter and try to shift but willnot until u let off to like 1/2 throttle. this was with a transmission cooler and synthetic fluid!!!! good luck.
