So I'm a new owner. I have a 2 ton jack and i'm sure you all know that I have to first drive up on 2x8's then jack it up, then jack stands, then jack farther with some more blocks of wood on the jack, then up the jack stands and repeat. Anyone know of better options apart from a full on car lift. Anyone know of a ramp that will clear the front bumper?

Thanks!
Matt

P.S. I'm a big guy and need a good amount of clearance.

I wouldn't recommend it, but I have, in the past, used a 2-ton engine hoist and grabbed the tow hooks before. lifted up smooth and fast. Threw some jack stands under it and let her down. Went higher than a jack and way faster up lol.

In the rear I actually used the 2 metal brackets behind each tail light in the trunk. Not sure what they were for because half the truck liner was ripped out when I bought the car, but man are they strong! like .25 inch of steel holding up the whole rear end 4 feet off the ground lol. went really slow to make sure I didn't break them and I raised my jack stand every inch I lifted it just in case, but they held up the whole time.

You could always buy some low profile ramps. They're not too expensive and they make life a lot easier, i would just look around on different forums, if they work for a corvette or a 350z then they should work for a z32. Or you could take the budget route and make your own out of wood, pretty cheap and easy.

Personally, I'm going to invest in a hydro-mechanical scissor lift. You pump it up just like a jack, but it lifts the whole car with adjustable lift points like a normal car hoist would have. They are around $1500 new, but I see them around for $600 or so used. They also fold up and have wheels so you can move them around. I eventually want to build my own shop and install a ground hoist, but this would be a great place to start for in-home use.

This is what I do also, except mine extends about a foot longer, just in case I over shoot the ramps.

A larger range jack helps too, my 3 tonne low profile jack lifts upto 24"

OUCH!!!! My wallet hurts!

They're a little pricey, but not much worse than my option lol.

Glad i could be of help, i made mine out of pressure-treated wood so I can keep them outside. Also i went a step further and rounded the edges so they're a little easier to drive up on. 20$ trip to Home Depot and your set.
