Hi guys I have been in contact with a shop out of San Jose, CA that is putting some thought into creating a rear diffuser for the 2011-2014 Infiniti M37, M56, M35h, and Q70 (Y51)models rear bumper. Are there any volunteers around the San Jose, CA area that would be interested in stopping by and having their car examined by this company? They would like to get a closer look of the factory rear bumper as part of their research process if they want to proceed with this project.

Sounds intriguing. PM me some details. There are some shops here I will not let near my cars so I am curious who it is.

That would be awesome! A real diffuser would be nice, not sure I want to paint one on or not.

For sure! I would even consider a cf finish if that was an option. But we'll see what the company things once we get someone to stop by with their car.

Debonair is the closest member to San Jose. I am about 2 hours away if he isn't able to arrange anything.

I thought I PM'ed CRV_33 so he could update the thread with this info but looking back at my Outbox I may have somehow failed. So I will paraphrase it here.

The contact at the shop was not real positive about the possibility of having one made. He cited several reasons including
  • Lack of interest on various forums, the subject quickly changes and/or threads die
  • Low model production numbers
  • Low model sales numbers
  • High initial cost for our model which keeps customers who modify their cars from buying them
  • Not very many good mounting spots
He also mentioned they usually start with a front lip and use positive sales figures to justify additional parts development. Unfortunately, all the above reasons apply to the front plus the fact that there are two factory front bumpers and a third optional OEM front bumper. This makes any single front lip they develop only fit 50% or less of the already rare Y51's on the street.

So it does not look like they are interested in doing anything for the Y51 at this time. :frown:

Good lookin on the update and for riding out there Debonair. That news sucks but I can see their reasoning. Just might go the route Putim37s took with paint.

That's unfortunate but not unexpected. That has been the reasoning behind all aftermarket for this car at least here in the states.

Downside of owning THIS luxury sedan. The rarity of this car is one the points that drew me to it. I see Lexus LS's, MB E/S-class, BMW 7-series, etc. all day long and maybe 1-2 Y51's a week at most. Any many of these are repeats. Heck, I see more Tesla model S's and X's on the roads around here then I do Y51's. Unfortunately this exclusivity bites back when it comes to the aftermarket as all those previously mentioned models have many aftermarket options in all categories. :crybaby
