Can I drive my 1990 with the antilock brake sensors disconnected?

I plan to swap out the differential, the current one is whining very loudly. (I tried changing the diff fluid). I have a used differential. I talked to a couple shops and they either don't want to swap it out because of having to calibrate the antilock brake sensors or they want to charge $800-$1000 on top of using my used differential. I would try swapping it, but I don't like the idea of crawling under the car with just jack stands.

I can live with the anti-lock brake warning light being on.

thanks

It's good to have a healthy fear of getting under a car.

jack stands are safe. just buy certified ones with no rust. you can do what I do if you're extra paranoid and slide your wheels under the carframe incase it did drop. just dont use the craftsman sears brand type jacks with the low density cast easy slip 'n' shear teeth feature.

the quoted price isnt bad at all considering they're willing to deal with the 17yo HICAS system and it's somewhat more complex than the usual vehicle. you should remove the entire rear subframe if the bushes need replacing and check it's straight.

I dont know anything about any wheel speed sensors that need calibrating. brake systems are pretty fool proof. the sensors just bolt in. brake systems dont require adjustment. its just a magnetic sensor that pings whenever a gear tooth spins past it like a driveshaft position sensor
