So I just picked up an '89 240 and it was burning massive amounts of anitfreeze and blowing white smoke out the exhaust.
Let me tell you what I've done so far...
I've replaced the head gasket, head bolts, exhaust manifold gaskets while it was apart and also the intake manifold gasket and the throttle body gasket. The head was not warped or cracked. When I put it all back together, I changed the oil, ran it until it got nice and hot, and then changed the oil again just to get most of the coolant out. Now it starts and runs just fine, but when the thermostat opens, it's dumping coolant into the oil again.
HOWEVER, this time, it is not blowing any white smoke what soever, but I do see smoke coming from my spark plugs. It won't idle on it's own once hot either. I checked the oil again, and it's milky. It's also starting to get some loud valve tap. Ofcourse, this is from the antifreeze thinning out the oil... What could I be missing??
I've just spent 3 days in my garage, and my brain is a little fried right now.. LOL
