this is an age old topic but im posting again so ill selfishly bring it up. im moving to a somewhat economically challenged area. the only way i can think to keep my car from being swiped is as follows.

a. use alarmb. use steering wheel lockc. yank ignition coil wire or entire coil pack

of course this leads me to think the connector will fall apart from all the unplugging

how else can i disable the car in a manner a theif will not anticipate is there something i could yank that is cheap to replace like a relay?

p.s. if i catch someone trying to break into my car i will bash their face in with a rock and deny everything

There are a couple threads about wiring up a fuel pump kill switch, you can probably find them. One isn't that old, it's in the Audio/Security forum. Basically you run a wire from the fuel pump fuse to a toggle switch hidden in the car, then when you get out you just turn it off and no one can start it.

If you want something you can pull off you can get one of those quick release steering wheel hubs, but I dont know if you want to carry a steering wheel around with you all the time lol.

There is this company that makes special solenoid for the starter that is apprently 100% anti-theft. With other alarms, they can still hot wire the starter but this solenoid is physically attached to the starter so they cant hot wire it...

clubs work effectivly, fuel pump kill switch will work, detachable steering wheel; all that will work nicely. The best way is to do something similar to the fuel pump kill or an ignition kill switch. use your imagination, that is definately the best way and make sure you dont tell anyone(not even a best friend).

Alarms dont really do anything, but make a lot of noise and keep honest people honest.

Well, the coil idea is a good one, except that anyone worth their salt can probablyput it back (not like the coil is hard to find) and it'll be a PITA when you need to GO somewhere.

Here's my idea... make a relay that uses a magnetic reed switch, which will allow to mount the switch BEHIND any panel in the car, and will not require a visible switch. With this device, you can just brush a magnet past it, and it will toggle. Anyway, run the relay to the fuel pump and the coil. That way, while the engine might crank, it won't have fuel and it won't have spark. It might even be worth it to run a kill to the starter, even on the same circuit. This creates a multilayered problem for a potential car thief, and given that the switch will be entirely hidden behind an interior panel, it will be VERY hard to steal.

The reed switch idea is not new. I found a writeup on it somewhere, possibly off this site, though the author only suggests that it be used as a fuel kill.

you can always pull your fuel pump fuse too. after a few times you can pull it and replace it by feel so it doesn't take too long.

multilayer is key...

all posts are on point.

i've seen a car w/ the club, shield, autolock on the clutch pedal, kill switch for fuel/ignition, aftermarket inline fuse for one of the ignition wires installed,etc...

i'm thinking of putting more anti-theft devices when I plan to move to north jersey next year.
