I just recently purchased a 1993 q45a. Everything was working fine until the other day. The car has a keyless entry with a remote starter. All was fine. Now the remote will not lock or unlock the doors it makes a clicking noise inside the car when pressed. The remote starter does still function but is killed when brakes are depressed. I believe the car is in armed mode still. It wont start. Press unlock once and it will allow motor to turn over but not start. Press again and the ignition is dead. The only way it starts is by remote, but has the problem of not allowing to drive. I have tried to reset remote using the advice for a 95 Q . But no results. Please help. Thank You. Sean

Sounds to me like you got some relays failing! I don't know how the remote start works but the door lock relay is under the armrest and is a common problem with early Q's. I'll check my FSM for the Anti Theft relay position.

As is it should if the key is not in the ignition.

If you have the FSM you can see a Theft warning control unit and a Theft warning relays on EL-129. If you don't the 1st relay is in the fuse box under the hood. The 2nd is above the passenger side kick panel, but you'll have to remove the glove box and back of glove box to get to it. The contol unit is also behind the glove box and back panel, top left hand side. Best to wait to hear from installer of these remote start devices before you start trouble shootin.

First thing I need to know is what type of keyless remote start you have. There are no OEM remote starts for these that I know of so you've either got an OEM keyless with an add on remote start or you've got a complete aftermarket system. What does your remote look like?

The remote start is supposed to die when you press the brakes so that is fine. I think you have a problem with the power supply from your junction box under the hood. Possibly a main fuse that supplies power to your ignition switch/interior accessories. Your remote start probably has its own power source independent of the ignition switch's power supply so it can still start the motor. Anything else not working in the car's interior? Interior lighting, radio, power windows, etc.

First think I would check is your fuse/relay box under the hood because I think you've lost a primary power supply to your interior. The alarm sounds like it's working fine. I think the problem is with the car's electrical.

More info and we can help more.

Thanks so much for all the advice. It is very cool to have the support of such great people. I have actually fixed the problem. I did check relays under hood. I am not able to find out the company of the alarm system. There are no signs of any maker anywhere on the remote or car. After checking everything that was accessible without tearing into the dash, I removed cables from battery let sit for a minute replaced cables. The horn beeped once and everything was back to normal. I realize that the brake will kill the motor without key in on position. All I know of the alarm is that it was installed at dealer in 93 as an add on. It could be tracked by satellite through the internet by satronics.net. But apparently they no longer are in buisness, as their website is no longer. I have all original paper work for everything done to car since new including window sticker, all service records, etc. The car has 130,000 and runs very strong and smooth. Thanks again

Great!

Now tell us about the timing chain guides, please. That way we can all sleep well tonight.
