Hello, i thought id post this in the rb forum, Well i just shipped my car out here to Hawaii and the car theft here is rediculious, so i thought about rigging up a toggle switch in a location that would somehow not allow anyone to start the car, i plan on getting a alarm too but just as a second line of defence, anyways any ideas on a good way to rig this up?

thanks, -Todd

Yah, one of my friends wired two fuel pump cutoff switches. One is on the dash under a big airplane toggle style switch, the other is hidden away elsewhere, I suspect in the center console. All he did was grab a diagram and hack at some wires.

There was a really nice thread on the MR2 board I tried to get stickied elsewhere that had TONS of really really good theft prevention tips from a guy who installed alarms for a living and knew people who boosted cars for a living. He has his starter wire rigged to his defrost button so you can't start the car without turning the defroster on first.

- Hide your alarm horn somewhere, like in the fender and don't make the wires obvious. Wrap the wires in black or hide them well.- Hide the alarm brain in equally crafty areas. - Make sure it gets some kind of backup power that will last- Make a cutoff switch for the alarm just in case your key fob dies- If you're feeling saucy, put a 120dB piezo in the AC vent or under the dash. The sound will distract the guy. If he can't figure your car out in a minute or two, chances are he won't stick around to try.

I've got a few idea I'm going to toy with but there are a few places. just add a toggle switch in to the power of the fuel pump or maybe the constant power to the ECU or an actually battery cut off. I like the idea of a loud speaker in the car to scare the hell out of the punks that try to steal it. maybe some type of system that shoots molten hot Nails at what ever moves lol I hate people that can't get things them selves so they just steal it...punks

In South Africa, you're allowed to have lethal response car theft stuff. Just look it up some time. Flamethrowers, shockers, etc.

One guy's car had an airbag over the driver seat so it'd go off on the person's head if they didn't disarm the system. So this thief gets in the car and starts trying to hotwire it. The airbag goes off over his head and he thinks it's a gunshot, so the thief fires his gun. While it was in his pocket. The bullet was lodged in the base of his pen15.

I'm thinking toggle switches aren't necessary. Why not use a lockout, like the clutch lockout, but with something a little more subtle.

For example, you always have to have it in reverse, or 5th gear to start (you already have switches on your transmission for those), or maybe the rear defroster AND the left blinker must be on to start it.

*Quick release system and clucth lock! *Do some rewiring so that u have to turn ur highbeam on to start ur car! *park inside ur garage*Viper alarm system with 2 way radio*Hood lock (the good ones)*backup battary for ur alarm

i am pretty sure there are tons of other ways to prevent ur car from being stolen. but seriously, if a pro who really want to steal ur car, there is nothing u can do. I think not only u can do things to ur car to prevent such happening, but other things also, such as: watch out for tailgaters (i got my frontend stolen bcuz i didnt pay attention to that, i learned), dont rev high or blow off near ur house, dont pop ur hood to strangers, dont bring every1 to where u live, specially friends u r not close with, etc

i wouldnt waste time with alarms and stuff. like stated above, just be cautious. here near detroit, the recent theme is to steal your car with a flatbed. the most recent one i heard of was a civic in the parkinlot of a dragway. they moved a car out of the way and then put it up on the flatbed and took off. it they really want your car, theres not much you can do about it.

I totally agree! Just be more cautious when drive daily.

But I still think alarm is much needed. Chances are, u dont come across to a pro everyday, specially those mofos out there who dont really want ur whole car, but rather ur parts. Again, just be more careful in everyday driving, and brat about ur car in front of ppl. That will get ur car stolen quick. Serously, out of all the ppl that i know that have nice cars, none of them is like that. I mean, if u have a nice car, ppl can see. Try to not race any1 on the road when u r driving locally, bcuz chances r the guy whom u race with, will be the 1 who steal ur part. If u r trying to race every1 on the road and u live like 300 miles away, go for it, but just be careful in ur local area

This is why I have all the go, with very little show. This is to not attract attention to the car.

Anyways, I am utilizing a fuel pump kill switch and a battery cut-off switch. Both in places you may never find. So, they are aonly gonna take the parts off the car, but they aren't gonna take the whole thing, unless they tow it lol.....

The best so far i think is the 5th gear start and the fuel cut off, Ramius, how did you wire up the fuel cut off?

Well.. my 240 is rigged like the batmobile.. so i say like.. shields.. and the shields come up, and then i say shock and it will shock you if you touch it!

But it adds extra weight because i have a RB20 engine and i wont be able to drift or turn my car... damn alarm system. BUT its effective . If i woulda got an SR engine.. WOW.. huge difference.. lol!

just a joke , what about some type of automated remote to turn it on? I wired my house like that... i hit this button and boom my lights turn on my tv is on my fav station my computer boots up and ****... and im being serious.. it was on Maximum PC haha

Cut the fuel pump wire. Connected a wire to each cut end. Ran them both to a remote switch that is cut off everytime I turn off the car/ignition. So, you have to turn the key to ACC, then hit the switch, then start the car, every time.

Battery switch is mainly for the track. But, it is hidden and is always used in bad areas. It is a battery kill and alternator kill, so they aren't going anywhere lol....

i bought one of thoose cigarette lighters that looks like a battery kill, the lighter is attatched with a piece of string so it doesn't get lost, and lets just say it doesn't light cigarettes anymore

If someone wants your car bad enough they will get it. The best system i have seen is one that allows the car to be taken but kills the fuel and/or the ignition after a minute or two. The theory is it dies in the middle of the street and the theif will just want to get away rather than diagnose the problem.

I recall that soemone was actually charged for murder in conjuction with his flamerthrower alarm.

but like everyone else says, most people will not go into your garage to steal your car unless you have something in the ferrari range

-Lo Jack-Auto Lock-2 Cutoff Switches, ignition and fuel pump cutoff, also other things like tps sensors or anything that will prevent the spark from firing, just hide them, its impossible for someone to find 2 of them that are hidden-2 way alarm

I'm thinking starter power and fuel pump.
