http://www.radartest.com/JOS.html scroll down to the bottom. I have seen these advertised

Blu:Are you in Canada or Europe?

While the covers dont work very well at all, against Laser, they do work very well against stationary photo traps. Those tend to look down from an off angle and the covers can make the license unreadable on the resulting picture.

They are illegal in some jurisdictions for this reason, but they are also difficult to distuingish, for an untrained policeman eyeballing them from his cruiser, so the risk of getting a ticket just for having one is very very low (and in any case that would be a LOT lesser ticket than these tend to protect against).

In the US this technology has been used almost exclusively at traffic lights to capture PPL running a red light, which I hope you are not planning on.

If in Europe or Canada stationary devices on poverp[asses, lamposts etc, look for speeders. If I lived in a jurisdiction that used them for this purpose I would probably get them.

Fred...:)

PS: Additonal info: They dont work by blocking radar just by making it more difficult to take a picture of your plates. Some are also made to make lasing you more difficult, as police are trained to lase onto your front (or rear) license plate, if this second effect is your intent, you probably will be disapointed by their lack of performance in this area.

The site also talks about passive jammers.

I wish to caution members about those, they do not perform. This includes specifically the models on that site.<Only> active jammers are known to actually work in independent tests.

I'd like to say that my roommate and longtime friend and I both have Rocky Mountain Radar passive jamming devices. I have a front and rear unit for 360 degrees, where he has a front jammer/detector unit. They work...period. I don't know if you have seen tests for these or not, but I have been saved quite a few times coming over hills and around corners and what not. They are not active, so they are legal in most states.

I agree with palmerwmd about the covers though. If you are planning on running reds, then you need get your head checked. In Iowa, and cover over a license plate, be it clear or shaded or whatever, is illegal.

(they use it in bathrooms) well anyways.. get that put it over your licence plate and then when u go to run a toll booth just hit a swich and it will fog up and they cant take your pic... wonder if this would work :)

The James Bond rotating license plate would be cooler, IMHO.

Just because you haven't been cited doesn't mean the unit works. They have been shown time and time again to be useless. Also, they do NOT work against LIDAR (laser). Better to invest in a Valentine One and be as safe as can be.

Good point re: the plate covers, though.

Better yet just carry a EMP generator in ur car...get the whole thing lead shielded first. Yeesh the things people do to get out of a ticket, prolly spending as much as a ticket would cost on a do-nothing gadget...

I do.... Your sig that is....

Also, : ) back on topic, I'd want the ECM for the gumball rally/one lap that way you don't need to worry about the cops, blow by doing 160mph and have their speedo read 65....oh the irony. : )

ACTUALLY daunt id rather talk about building emp generators.. :)Anyways the ecm is just a plan and 2000 to build.. similar to a emp. However wouldnt it be just (actually more) as fun to flip a switch and just kill the cops engine? He wouldnt even be able to call for backup then. And if a cop sees anyone go by at 100 hes not gonna sit there cuz his gun says 65

I know, thats not the point, if I were actually doing 160, I would just have it not respond. : )

Also, I love anime chicks.

And yes, an EMP weapon woudl be fun, but EMP generators are pretty big still, would be hard to load one in your car, although the military is working on it. : )

Did I mention I love anime chicks?

Plus, it would be more fun to have the cop chase you, if you're doing that speed you probably don't care too much.

God I love anime chicks.

That is not an Anime chick. Her name is "World" she is from the Magical Drop puzzle game series. This is my favorite game ever! And yeah, she's pretty cute...

not just size but range would be another consideration. I mean you wouldn't want to be responsible for shutting down a hospital or some other equally important building. when eluding the cops we need to consoder all aspects of the devices we plan on using

I can safely say I have never seriously thought about building an EMP generator.

Hmm, doubtful, just because I have no interest in building an EMP Generator does not mean I am one to play things on the safe side. : )

Putting lead plates around every piece of electrical equipment is not only impractical but probably impossible...

HAHAHAHAHA...

Thought that'd rattle a cage or two. Had a chance to scrap with a clean 240 (maybe a 95 or 96?) Saturday (3 stoplight runs to 70 mph or so AND a long, sweeping onramp, then onto the freeway). I'll post the whole story in the Infiniti forum later.
