Antenna Rod

My bent antenna rod finally broke in half. I was at the car wash today and it mysteriously went up half way through. I got the tail out of it with the broken piece of the rod, but I can't get the rest of the rod out. I removed the nut and the base, turned the radio on and pulled on it pretty hard and it just wouldn't come out. Any ideas?

You should have the radio on, and be able to take out the remaining porton... At this point, cut the nylon belt, and then when you go to do your R/R for the mast you will get all the old belt out of the motor.....

The entire belt came free, but half the rod is still in there. I tried to pull it out, but it won't come out. I don't know how it's stuck in there.

Just pull out the motor assy with it (from the bottom, IE trunk area).....

So if I pull out the entire assembly, I'm still not sure how I will get the remaining rod out. I can get it to extend all the way out, but it won't come free. I'll bust out the digi tomorrow and show you what I mean.

Just disassemble the motor unit and clean it after you remove broken tail pieces.

Yeah, the motor assy encapsules some of the rod itself, so when you take the housing off you will be able to rip it out...

Been there, done that too.

Fish out all the pieces and get a tube of white lithium grease (any auto parts store) to re-lube the mechanism. To feed the antenna back in, have radio turned on, then have somone turn it off while you feed the plastic rod. It should draw it right back in.

(Hijacking the thread) My tube is broken. The mast is O. K., but the aluminum tube has been broken.

I have re-straightened it, somewhat, but I need a new tube.

I do not want to buy a whole new mechanism.

The antenna will go in all the way, only if I turn the radio on and off about 4 times.

Anybody know where I can get the tube only?

I'm a bit confused.

As I know it, the aluminum tube is part of the mast. You'll need a new mast which is the unit that extends up and down and has the plastic rod attached. Shouldnt be too expensive, see dealer.

Sorry, I mean, the 1" diameter aluminum tube, that the mast retracts into. Don't have a clue how it was broken. You have to remove the panel behind the CD changer, to see the tube.

I have thought of taking ati apart, and trying to saw the broken part out, and patch it somehow.

Just trying to save myself about $75 for a new unit.

The mast repacement is just the mast itself, and the cable. These are fine on mine, just a little worn, from years of use.

Theres a guy parting out a 94 Q... You might be able to get his antenna for like $10.....

There is no prat number for the tube itself...
