Antenna mast won't separate from motor

95 240sx I've got the motor + mast out of the car but cannot separate the two so I can replace the mast w/a new one. I've searched and searched but have no clear explanation of how to separate the mast from motor. Does the mast just get pulled from the motor? Manual say to turn on radio and while the antenna rises pull off. This is not working! I'm stuck and need some guidance. PLEASE HELP!

That is the only way that it will seperate from the motor. It took me a couple of tries to do mine.
