Got my V back today, the second issue looked at was that the power driver's window auto-rollup feature had stopped working (not entirely coincidentally, when the dent under my driver's side mirror was fixed).

Apparently the mechanism they use is timed, not mechanical, so it needs to be "timed" every few years to work correctly. The timing was messed up by the tech (or body shop) that did the mirror/dent work, and they didn't bother re-setting the timing, so that is why it failed.

The techs today reset the timing and it works correctly.

Timing!!!!! Good grief!! Has to be reset every few years, was it designed by Bill Gates for goodness sakes!!! Do tell us more on this "timing" thing.

That's all I know, that's what I was told at the dealership by the service advisor.

That is also super ghetto.

My Subaru is what, 18 years old? And its auto-rollup feature works as well as it did on day one. Why? because it's a mechanical kick-off. Too much pressure against the motor causes the switch to kick back into its original place.

Since the Nissan switch is a different design, they don't have the same mechanism (even though during the 80's, Nissan and Subaru used a lot of the same electrical parts as they ordered from the same suppliers)

Sometimes, too much technology is a bad thing!! I know, I have worked for 24 years in an industrial manufacturing environment with the latest and greatest machinery. I work on the electronics/computer systems of these beasts and I know too much of a good thing when I see it!!! Seems the management type are easily impressed with bells and whistles!! Anyway, the info is good to keep in mind, thanks. Mine goes for tinting Friday and I am hoping the auto up feature is not affected Do you know if they had to take off the door panel to do this "timing" procedure?

I would imagine so, since they had to take apart part of the door to get the mirror off, which is what screwed up the timing in the first place.

I'm not sure if you guys are referring to a different issue or not, but here's my experience:If you mean the auto-up switch stops working on your window, just check the manual under 'power windows' or similar. It gives you the reset procedure. It takes all of about 10 seconds to do.I don't remember exactly, but it's basically as follows:1) Roll the window down more than halfway2) Hold the UP switch until the window closes, then continue to hold for another 4 secs.3) release the UP switch.4) test the auto-up/down feature.

That worked on mine. This also fixes the issue with the window not detecting your hand stuck in it while closing to activate the safety auto-down.

Cheers!

Very good info, thanks. My Versa is in the shop to do the window tinting today. If the auto up doesn't work after this, I will try that.

Nah, not really. It's not like these windows have 1/2HP 3-phase motors or anything....hmmm.....do I smell a MOD?

Maybe we could mod the window motors to work like the flash doors in Star Wars! And, yes, before someone gets any stupid ideas, I am joking.
