Yeah, i haven't heard of anything like that in the states. Unless your car is "antique" which then you set a dollar value with the insurance company of what your car is worth and that's the amount it's insured for. As far as I know, that's how it works. My insurance agent is completely full of bulls*** and will give me a 20 minute presentation for a simple question. So I never really know what is going on.

I plan on starting the engine pull either this weekend or in two weeks or so. The slicktop has 175k on it and i'm assuming that it has the original engine in it. I will need to do the 180k maintenance as well as a engine rebuild and I think I will go ahead and get a new harness for the engine while I'm at it so I don't have to replace 75% of the connectors on my harness. What deletes will i need to do while the engine's out? I plan on doing the throttle body coolant pipe delete already.

I know that there are generally 'tuner appraisers' out there (I forget their proper name) that will assign a realistic value to your tuned car based on mods and quality of work. Keep in mind that it will never exceed what you've actually put in, but should raise it far beyond the book value.

This story has reaffirmed my thoughts on going through that process. Sure it costs to get the appraisal, and you'll pay more in premiums (once you find an insurance company that accepts the appraisal), but at least you would be looking $10k+ for a clean car with quality mods.

Having gone through this process several times over the years, I WISH that there was some way to get modification value added to your vehicle, but it just isn't the case beyond replacement value- such as having new tires matters but that they are top of the line, not so much.

Basically as has been mentioned here you have to do ALL of the legwork and have the burden of proof to get ANY value added to the low KBB value they use to value losses (NOT the higher NADA values used to sell them!), and then to clean your car very well and be prepared with any and every receipt you have for all vehicle costs, then hold on for dear life and try not to be beat down by the claims people who's job it is to beat you down.
Act back to them exactly as they act towards you and never back down, and keep asking to talk to their boss or someone who can make decisions...eventually they will negotiate with you but it takes quite awhile for that to become necessary from their standpoint, which is the key to the entire negotiation.

Exactly^. Hate to say it, but basically you have to act like a dusche to them to get em to be reasonable about it and that's just their job. It's not that big of a deal though. It's easier for me to just skirt around them as much as possible and fix everything myself. It just makes my life that much easier. That and I do not trust mechanics other than myself ever, unless I'm physically unable to do the work that needs done. You can never be 100% sure of what shortcuts they did/did not take unless you watch em.
