I have a sound that sounds a lot like an exhaust leak, a tapping, thats coming from the intake side of the car. It doesnt make the noise all the time only ever so often and it only does it when the cars idling out of gear. Any ideas?

EDIT: Also, it only makes the noise when it's out of gear. When I push in the clutch it stops and it doesnt make it when I drive.

Loud tapping? or soft because the injector pulse makes a soft tapping noise.

it can either be a rod bearing.. or maybe you need to bleed one of lashers/pivots..

Well it's never done it before. There hasnt been any change in performance at all. I thought something had rattled loose and was clanking but I cant find anything.

After reading about worn throw out bearings, I think you're right. Thanks for the info.

What's the easiest way to pull the transmission of a SR?

And is there any kind of way to guess how long I got till the bearing goes? It doesn't grind very often and it doesn't make the.. for lack of better word... tapping sound very often either. Right now I can't not have my car running while I replace the bearing (work) and I can't afford to pay a shop to do it (which I imagine would be the fastest way to get it done.)

If you have a engine hoist you can undo the mounts and lift it or undo the trans mount and let it sag some but you need to cap the end of the trany so the fluid doesnt all run out of the rear main seal of the transmission.

Undo all your bolts and slave cylinder and drop the transmission down. Inside youll see like the O ring thick metal thing that goes around the transmission output shaft. Thats the throw out bearing.

Well, with the help of a friend I pulled my transmission tonight. It was my first time to ever pull one and it sure was a task! lol

Anyways, yes my throwout bearing is looking tough. My new one will be in tomarrow. I'll post pics tomarrow too.

(off topic but I dont care what anyone says, SinCity is a badass move lol)

Yea I loved the movie and yes removing the transmission is a task especially when I had to do it a week after my second swap... Sheered my Fork Pivot ball in half... Hard to do.
