It's been an exciting past couple weeks for my KA-T project, so I thought I'd give you guys a photo-riffic update of everything that's been going on.

Today I got my intercooler piping in, its all aluminum mandrel bends laid out/cut by me, and tig'ed up by Jeff over at 240sxmotoring.com:

The intake as you can see needs to be cut a little bit and fit for a filter, but that's pretty much the idea.

Another pic of everything from up top:

The IC looks a little cocked because the cold side needs a little bit of finessing (aka cut a chunk of the pipe out cause it's too long right now), a bunch of wires need to be cleaned up etc etc-- but I'm getting VERY close to done now.

Also I got the gauges in: Autometer Cobalt boost and oil press in the a-pillar

Wiring is almost done for em-- got the sender stuff through the firewall and hooked up, just gotta do the power for em now.

On top of that I got the B+M short shifter installed, VLSD and fuel lines, the AEM EMS is sitting in my room awaiting install, and lots of wires got routed, taped, and wire loomed for prettyness. Still left to be done is the downpipe, EMS setup, and a couple other small things. I plan to start it for the first time sometime next week -- I CANT FREAKIN WAIT!

Couple more pics of the same stuff from different angles... I know I'm photo-happy but dammit I cant help myself:

Blow off valve side:

IC shot:

Boost Gauge:

I know things are pretty dirty now-- my garage isnt exactly the most dirt/dust/whatever free, but trust me I'm going to make it super clean soon.

For those who dont know, this is a built KA-T running the AEM EMS looking for 400+ rwhp/tq at 20psi or so.

Thanks man! I took my time (well, I've had the time) to make sure everything was routed nicely, plus I took out everything I deemed unnecessary.

No cold air intake, the pipe is just long right now cause I got it today and havnt cut it to length yet.

Looks good, man! The scariest part for me is the piping.

Newb question: I saw your catch tank. How/Where do you hook that up?

Awesome job Foster, I am sorry I havent gotten the base map to you yet for the EMS, Lar went to Cali for the AEM EMS advanced tuning seminar (they paid him to go out) and he took the damn lap top that we have the calibration saved on for the twin's S13 with him. He will be here Monday with the lappy and I will email you the files you will need.

Looks awesome man! So clean!!! How long have you been working on it? How much have you sunk into it? When are you planing to go to a dyno? Did you get the UEGO EMS? What times are you hoping for at the strip? Will you auto x it? lol, thats a lot of questions...lol...

The piping really wansnt that bad at all. Honestly I was scared by it too, but once you get a bunch of bends in front of you and you can line them up right there on the car it's not that bad... just mark-cut-mark-cut... the welding is another story of course but most of us will probably just pay someone to do it like I did.
IWannaS15 wrote:Newb question: I saw your catch tank. How/Where do you hook that up?
One of them connects to the breather nipple on the valve cover, the other one to a good vaccum
Redline240 wrote:Looks awesome man! So clean!!! How long have you been working on it?
Thanks dude! Uhmm well I beleive I pulled the engine out in early/mid August-- it's been taking me a pretty long time to do everything-- that's half because I've been saving up for parts as I install them, and half because I'm doing this for the first time learning how to do everything.
Redline240 wrote:How much have you sunk into it?
A LOT. Basically I've spent well more than twice what I had expected it would cost, and I had some sizable estimates from the get-go. ...I guess that kinda happens when you keep upgrading your setup as you're building it-- I didnt decide to do the standalone untill the motor was already built and installed heh..
Redline240 wrote:When are you planing to go to a dyno?
For my big tune. The plan is to break it in on a base tune + Ivan's KA-T map (Ivan: no problem on the tune-- I dont need it just yet anyways), and then bring it to a local tuning guy to help me tune it for 20 psi on the dyno. This will happen whenever I both have the money and all the breaking in/bugs working out is done.
Redline240 wrote:Did you get the UEGO EMS?
Hell yea!
Redline240 wrote:What times are you hoping for at the strip?
I'd really like to break into the 11's with some experience and good tuning.
Redline240 wrote:Will you auto x it?
Yeeeahh maybe for fun once in a while-- Auto-x isnt really #1 priority but I wouldnt mind trying it

Thanks for all the awesome comments guys!

Neato!

Looks very clean! How much did the piping run you? Good job! If you do the entire car as professional as you did in the pics, I have no doubts as to what the car can do. Keep up the good work. Watch out for the Autometer boost gauge. Mine is getting lasy and sleeps around 1-2in HG when the engine is off.

yeah I got all the piping locally, through 240sxmotoring.com (CIP Racing), which is located about an hour away from my house.

Full list of parts to date (and I DO mean full-- you asked for it!)

The gauge uses a 3bar map sensor and is fully electronic. When you turn your igniton off, the gauge will end up in the position that the needle was in when the power was cut. Its not like a mechanical gauge where the needle has a spring that keeps the needle at ZERO when there is no vacuum or boost. Another thing to watch out for with the Cobalt boost gauge is the power you use for it. The gauge takes a reading of atmospheric pressure when it first gets power. If the power supply you use is interupted by the start switch, then it will take that reading when the gauge gets power again once you release the key. Your motor will be running at this point and be in vacuum and the gauge will think that this atmospheric pressure and your boost gauge will read quite a bit higher then what it should.

^^ yup, I'm working on that now. The instructions say to find a power that is on during cranking--- so if anyone knows of a +12v that doesnt switch off for the startup I'd really like to know where it is.
Redline240 wrote:Can't help but notice you didn't do the timing chain $h!t
Well I did and I didnt.. I did both tensioners which are the real wear items I think, plus all the timing stuff was in REALLY good condition on this motor when I got it. This pic is on the motor the day after I brought it home, before any cleaning or teardown really started:

Foster - Need to upload those pics to Photopost on NICO, they're all saying "BW exceeded".

Can't wait to see them!

Wow guys! 1.5 gigs of bandwith just from these pictures in 3 days?!

All fixed now though-- thanks for the compliments everyone!

EDIT: Greg for some reason the NICO photopost doesnt work for me. I keep getting MySQL errors every time I try to "add" the photos. I made a post about this with the exact error in Nico Gen a month or so ago, but I'm still getting the errors...
