Hey guys... got back from ModernSpeedLabs a few days ago and nothing went right... i swear to god i'm never gonna get my car tuned to it's full potential...

Anyways.... first off... the software (datalogit) that i bought off of another member on here wouldn't work correctly.... when plugged up to the PFC it read completely different numbers than the hand controller when it was plugged up...the software wouldn't allow for any changes either... so we decided to try and use the hand controller....

Everything was fine and dandy.... had good a/f readings at half throttle... but when we'd hit WOT the motor would start to cut out...

We weren't sure what exactly the problem is... although at this point it was still being run off of the apexi base maps....

So here's what i was informed to do....-check, double check, and triple check all of my intercooler couplers for leaks-check to see if the VCT is even working... (not sure how to do this)-Check timing

Can someone please help me out... i don't know what to do... i'm losing all of my motivation on this car and i just want to give upThanks-Andrew

well from what they (modernspeedlabs) were telling me.... the software (datalogit) had completely different numbers in the ign. maps and fuel maps as the PFC.... and all we did was unplug the handcontroller and plug up the laptop.... then unplugged the lap top and plugged in the hand controller.... for instance, the injector duty cycle ... instead of reading 86.5% (adjusted for my 550cc injectors)... the datalogit was reading 100% duty cycle... and when changes were attempted to be made the computer wouldn't change the settings.......

How do i check if my VCT is working?????????????????

Ok so i hooked up my laptop to the PFC and using the datalogit software tried to make changes..... the software had injector cycle duty set to 100% so i changed it to 86.5% and when i click "update" i get a response back saying "interface not responding" So basically the software isn't responding to the PFC so it can't make any changes

Have you signed up for the Datalogit Support news group yet?

From what your saying basically the Datalogit is just not connecting to the PFC? Are you using a USB to serial adapter? Is your COM port configured correctly? There's an issue with some latops and the Datalogit where it won't connect to the PFC if the Car is already runnng. You must Turn on the Laptop, startup the program, Key on, Connect program to PFC then start the car.I bypassed this issue with a USB adapter. However you must set up your com port.

Go to the FC datalogit home page and sign up for the Newsgroup.

Did you check to make sure the ver of your pfc works with your ver of FC lodgit? I rem seeing that there was one ver that need a diffrent datalogit from the other rb25's.

I haven't yet tried what you suggested eh? Yes i'm using a USB to serial adapter.... but but i'll give it a shot... i'm not sure how to configure my COM port either...

Yes the datalogit software is the correct version for my pfc

The car wouldn't studder.... it would shut off i think.... i think the a/f ratios were going off the scale so the computer would retard timing (this is just an assumption)

Ok so i toyed with this thing again today...I think i found out what you're talking about when you say "com port"

i go to tools, then port, then it has a list of com1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8....

When i first open up the program imediately it says "error opening port1"

I went through this entire list and the only port i don't get this message is with port 3....

So when i'm in comport 3 i don't get the message "interface not responding"... but when i try to moniter everything...it doesn't show any numbers.... just 0's

also when you click monitor is that all you click and it shows 0's? Ok, I checked back into the forum history and you had issues with the PFC saving data? Was the issue corrected? You said when you connected to COM 3 it did not display that error message, that should mean it's connected. Have you tried writing to the PFC? After you connect to the PFC Click read. Then go over to one of the maps and change one of the numbers by a small amount. Click Write. After you do that turn off the car. IT should give you that mesage error again. Restart the car and reconnect the datalogit. Click read again and check to see if that number was change to what you previously put. As for the Monitor are you clicking start after you get to that screen? Over at the lower right hand coner of the Monitor page you will see Start, end, etc.

I haven't ever noticed a redlight come on on the PFC...

Yes i correct my PFC saving problem... anytime i make a change w/ my handcontroller the change is saved after i turn off the ign....

I haven't tried changing any of the map settings... just tried to change the fuel injector duty cycle.... on my PFC h/c it's set to 86.5%... but when i hook up the datalogit the duty cycle is set to 100%... i tried to change the datalogit to 86.5% and i wasn't sure if it made any changes because when i click on "monitor" and yes i click "start" on the bottom right corner... all of the figures still remained at "0"

There's supposed to be a red light on the datalogit box that will come on when it's powered. If that didn't come on you should always get that error message, but your not. You must make sure you have the com port configured correctly.

I'm getting a red light whenever i've got the datalogit box hooked up to the pfc

whenever i plug up the usb cord my laptop says new hardware is being added but it says something like "would you like to search the internet for the appropriate software..." somewhere along those lines... after i click next and cancel i get a message saying that "your new hardware may not function properly" something stupid cause it knows there's something plugged into the usb port

If I was a little closer to you we could test the datalogit on my PFC to see if it works. I guess you haven't had any luck contacting datalogit?

From what you've said, you're having basic computer problems. If the red light comes on it's powered up.If it connects without the "interface not responding" message it should be working correctly.

Did you not get a Driver disk for the adapter? You need that disk otherwise the laptop won't know what it is.

that means you need the specfic hardware connectivity issue--it sounds like the USB -> COM Port emulation software isn't working properly....are you able to use a serial cable instead??? serial connection tends to work better for these type of things.

Actually not with the Datalogit. There are issues with it and some laptop serial ports. The Datalogit and laptop needs to be running and connected before the engine is started. With the USB adapter you can start the datalogit and laptop anytime.

EH?: the only software i got from you when i bought the datalogit from you was the c.d. that had the datalogit software on it.... there is no other c.d. or driver disk for the hardware

I'm using the datalogit adaptor box... and i have a serial->usb cable connected to that to hook up to my laptop

WHERE CAN I GET THE DRIVER CD??????

The USB adapter you bought was supposed to come with a Driver CD. Read the documentation, maybe your supposed to download it.

I finally got the bastard to work!!! .... I couldn't ever get the drivers installed correctly on the lap top... dunno... i guess it was a sh!tty usb->serial cable.... but anyways.... i just plugged the datalogit serial cable into the back of my brother's laptop... set the port to COM1 and everything worked after that

Now it's time to make ANOTHER trip to get her tuned

Like I said basic computer problems... Is your laptop a Dell ?

I really recommend you take your car to a different shop. Use of the PFC/datalogit requires a decent level of computer knowledge, the shop you took it to didn't have any.

The first laptop i was trying this on was a dell..... then the second laptop i tried this on was a sony vio... but the sony had the serial port so it worked no problems after that.....

Yeah i'm talking to aspectuning in shaumberg, IL.... they've already handled quite a few rb25's.... they're working on an rb26 with an HKS 2.8 stroker, and they've built an rb30...

They told me they don't have the software to tune the PFC with so they suggest using a microtech LT25 (?something like that?) for an ecu... I haven't told them i've got datalogit yet.
