This is from working under the car...

so i gets the bellhousing up and the input shaft into the hole, a little shaking and i get it about 1/2 an inch from the block and it just wouldn't go any more. i just tried shaking it all sorts of way, push, pull, jacking it at different angles, nothing! well it's back on the ground now awaiting round 2 and freshly greased.

please give me some ideas.

89 motor 89 5spd transmission, 93 PP, clucth, flywheel.

well you need to take a look at the crankshaft, in the center of the crank there is supposed to be a bushing for a manual trans and there may be something different in an auto car so that may be your blockage, also make sure that the alignment dowels on the block will fit inside the trans holes. I have never done an auto/manual swap so I am not sure of the specifics but from what you are describing it will probably be one of the things I described since it will get so far on before it stops

i already got rid of the auto thing in there, kinda like a sleeve, i put in the bushing and that's fine. i greased everything real good on this go around and i will try again tomorrow because my arms are screwed from the last try.

make sure the automatic torque converter bushing is out. It sounds like you are real close. Just keep wiggling the trans and you might have to jack the front of the engine up as a last resort. Make sure the starting notches are lining up on the bellhousing and the inspection plate in between the trans and engine isn't binding up. Once you catch the first thread when putting your first bolt in its ussually slides the rest of the way in.

I was just thinking about this, give me some feedback.

How far in does the MT pilot bushing go? Since I couldn't find any real specifics about it, mine is flush to the hole. I was just thinking about it and i remembered someone talking about tapping it in with a slightly smaller socket. Maybe i need to tap it in farther back?

well I believe that you need to seat it fully inside the crankshaft. I wouldnt see that holding you up but its worth a try to see if that works

I believe so, I dont think it will hurt if all the way in is in too far because you dont really have a lot of room to work with there anyways

That was it! I got it all the way in now. But ran into 5 other non-related problems.
