When you retard timing per psi boost, you need to have something that is capable of making those adjustments on the fly, like a MSD BTM. When you adjust timing at the distributor (you cant adjust the crank itself, you just read base timing off of it with a timing light), you are only adjusting BASE timing. This means that if you retard say 5 degrees, then everything in the timing map will be retarded 5 degrees- including times when you are not in boost. Still, some people do this as a band-aid for low boost/low cost setups, and it has proven to work fairly well. I would still recommend something like a MSD BTM though, just because you have more control and the timing changes you make will be related only to in boost areas of the map. It depends on your goals though, and ultimately how much money you have to spend.

Also on another note, please do your best to proofread your posts before you hit that "post" button. Your questions are really hard to read, and it makes a bad impression if you don’t use correct capitalization or punctuation.

Good luck man, keep us updated on your project.

So of i wanted to get it running because i need to get paid again to buy a MSD BTM if i retarded it a lilttle and ran low boost i would adjust at the dis right, and which way is retard/advance?When i do get paid and have the money i should get a MSD BTM or somthing like that or is that what i want? I have goals of about 300 horse or so and i have a good budget it just comes in two week checks.

I dont remember which way you turn the distrib to retard, I THINK its counter-clockwise but I could be wrong. You should be checking your work with a timing light anyways, just turn it a little one way or the other and you will see right away on the crank if you are adding or taking away timing.

The MSD BTM is a good way to retard timing per boost. What are you using to control your fuel?

How far is this project actually along? You're sorta scaring me here, you dont seem to know too much about building a turbo engine and making it run right-- are you just starting out or are you really about to go into the garage and start twisting your distribuitor? I dont want you to screw anything up man (and you can EASIALLY with that distribuitor), make sure you know what you are doing before you even come close to popping that hood.

The MSD BTM is perfect. For now though you'll need to run some retard at the dizzy unless you stay under 8 psi of boost. Retard is turning the dizzy counterclockwise IIRC. The idle should go down when you do it.

If you are going to install the Enthalpy ECU then leave stock timing and you don`t need the MSD BTM. The ECU tune will adjust the timing for you.

If you have a ECU on the way that controls the fuel and timing....yes you should wait.

yup, the ecu is one of the best ways to control fuel and timing. You have nothing to worry about, jsut set the base timing to 20 deg.

I spent some time to sit down and write long answers to your questions. Please read them!

Dude....wait till your ECU gets here. Install all of the kit at once. Your factory timing is set to 20* stock. So unless you messed with it. Your fine.

Before you post anymore. Read through the forum. Thanks...
