this is for the kae

Ive replaced the previously broken chain guide and got the engine running but timing was 10 degrees off beyond what I could adjust with the distributor. I figure I'm probably off a tooth or so, then I start tearing everything apart to fix this and put a new chain on since everything was already out, and while I'm taking off the chain the plastic peice on the chain guide slips off! the tensioner was only used to idle the car for a minute! just to check timing! I popped the plastic piece back on the steel backing (it didnt break, just popped off) So now I'm seriously considering JB welding the plastic to the metal part before reinstalling. Would this cause any problems later? I noticed when I first bought it (nissan OEM btw) that the plastic piece kinda wiggles, is it supposed to be like this or should it be on snug? I wanted to jb weld it snug so I dont have to go fishing for the plastic peices in the oil pan later...again. It just looks so prone to breaking off. So is this a good idea? Safe?

sorry for the long post, and Thanks in advance

oh and btw, is the rtv copper stuff good for the front cover? or black? or should I stick with regular old blue?

hey LD, i just posted in a similar direction, but on a -de.did your guide actually break? was it the lower chain guide(maybe you only have one--i'm showing my ignorance).

If you had a brand new oem tensioner and the nylon part separated from the metal backing, couldn't you return it as defective? I'm sure you are very resourceful.. but with a homegrown bonding job, there *may* always be that doubt in the back of your mind about it separating again.

my personal opinion on sealer is to use permatex gray. i think that is very close [maybe identical] to 'nissan liquid gasket'.

which guide are you refferring to? the old one was found in peices in the oil pan. this new one didnt break it just popped of the steel backing. I snapped it back on (it has little "tab" looking things that barely hold on to the steel part) nothing was broken and it looks just like new. Im just concerned because it so flimsily attached from the factory. it was the guide on the drivers side. theres only a tensioner and this guide.

I should take it back to the dealer I guess... now I must find this receipt.

permatex gray? check.

i was referring to the long 'channel' guide on the drivers side [well exhaust mani side so that it applies to longitudinal or transverse engine directions], and i was referring to your old one that needed replace. in pieces is a bit worrysome. did any clog your oil intake? did the chain jump?

I dont think it clogged my oil intake, oil still flows, plus the oil pickup has that mesh screen, dunno. the chain was off a few teeth. we're getting nice sunny days here in Denver so my car should be ready soon
