I just replaced my TOB in my s14 for the third time, all nissan parts. Now, maybe 5k later, it's grinding again. I don't get it. What is causing these to go bad, I had it done at a shop that knows their stuff. It grinds when i push in the clutch coming to a stop, but only if the gearbox is in gear, if I pull it to neutral, it stops. It's not cool to spend $300 in labor twice a year, so what the heck is it? btw I have replaced the slave as well( nissan parts, of course)HELP, the dealer wont help, they just say to replace it(which i will have to do, but need to find the source of the problem)

Check that the tob also known as release bearing is compressed onto the release sleeve evenly around. Also make sure you lube the required areas. Check the retainer spring, and holder spring for damage or wear. Than check your pivot and fork for any wear, damage signs and replace if needed. I dont have a tob removal tool but I can show you what it should look like through pictures if you want.

I'm back at square one again. This throwout bearing can't even have 20k on it. All nissan parts, I garage her for the winter. After having it out for a month I have the grinding with the pedal in. Rather than take it to a shop and pay 300+ just to figure out what it is should I just tear into it? I have an FSM and ability, just not sure about the special tools needed. Is it a pain to do without a lift? Any help is appreciated!

Thanks, seen that. That will help when I end up doing it.

I'm hoping to diagnose as to whether it is the TB bearing or something else killing the bearing.

The weird thing that makes me wonder is that The bearing grinds when I push in the clutch, yet when I pull the selector to neutral the grinding stops. (not a trans issue as it's only with the clutch in)

Wondering if a weak master would cause this via never fulling disengaging therfore ruining the bearing in short order.
