From my research it seems there is a way to drive a skyline legally in the us, but the car has to be titled and insured in Canada. So is there anyway I could do a joint title with someone in Canada and then drive it over here? I could have my Canadian friend drive it over the boarder then leave it here. Does anyone see anything wrong with this plan? I live in Seattle BTW Anyone with any knowledge want to chime in ?I am looking at a couple r32 GTrs. I don't see anything that can go wrong here.
In a sense, this could be a way to do it, BUT, I don't know about the two owner rule. Since Canada only has a 15 year law, R 32s are pretty well good to go. Now, as I see it, if you have permant residence in Canada with a proper visa (if you aren't a Canadian citizen), then I can't see where this could be an issue.
Now, getting it accross the border and "leaving it there" might have some repercussions should you get stopped and someone else's name is on the registration/title, especially if you have a U.S. physical address.
Plus, joint ownerships usually have a tendancy to go wrong in one way or another. I had it happen to me. Was co-owner of an older Olds Cutlass 4-4-2, and my partner sold the car out from under me, forged my signature, and bailed out of the state. Ole boy made about $3k profit off the car after resto work we had done, and I saw none of that money, or him. Still don't know what ever happened to the guy.
Anyway, there is always gonna be someone who has a "legal way" to get a Skyline. Just hold out a few more years and you can get yourself one.
