Got the Volvo back from the dealer today. New fuel pump, new electronic throttle module, bump stops adjusted to lessen wheel rub (those OEM 17s are a surprisingly tight fit), timing belt checked for wear -- it was recently replaced and is in good shape. All of that was free thanks to Volvo's warranty extension and recall and the generosity of Brentwood Volvo.

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of test-driving a bright red 2005 Saab 9-3 yesterday and loved it, even though it was the less powerful base model Linear with the crap sound system and light pressure turbo. I also d!ck around at the Saab dealer the day before and played with some newer 9-3s just to get a feel for the clutch and shifter.

SO... here's my dilemma. I have a serious itch for yet another Saab, a 2003-2005 9-3 sedan.

---

ARGUMENTS IN FAVOR OF KEEPING VOLVO:
Cool pop-up navigation display capable of playing iPod video if I decide to be irresponsible and purchase an input adapter.
Truly OUTSTANDING Dolby Pro-Logic sound system
A mountain of torque, responsive turbo
Smooth and comfortable ride
Really outstanding seats
Seriously good fun to romp on. I-5 turbo makes a beautiful sound.
SMELLS AWESOME INSIDE
ONE OWNER. I think it was a Jewish lady based on the name, and she took excellent care of it.

ARGUMENTS AGAINST KEEPING VOLVO:
Heavy clutch
Notchy, heavy shifter
Not enough communication from suspension or tires
Steering is accurate in routine driving but needs more feedback
Suspension isn't as tight as it ought to be (fixable)
A bit too "adult"

---

ARGUMENTS IN FAVOR OF BUYING A SAAB 9-3 ARC/VECTOR/AERO:
Snickety shifter feels just like a Mazda
Light and easy clutch
Responsive chassis, built on GM Epsilon platform. The whole car feels light and eager to play.
Neat looking interior with option of white leather and door panels and BUTTONS GALORE (I'm 12)
Lots of discounts through Saab Club North America, of which I am a dues-paying member
Very little torque steer
Possibility of another road trip :)

ARGUMENTS AGAINST BUYING A SAAB 9-3:
Waste of another $450 in taxes, inspection fees, and registration
Some GM-ness all around
More things to fix on another used car
Interior and overall build quality not as good as Volvo
Audio system inferior to Volvo
No navigation
Seats not quite as supportive as the Volvo

---

TIED:
Snow traction
Fuel economy
Resale value (poor for both, not much further down to go)
Maintenance costs (somewhat high for both)
Styling
Serviceable by my regular all-Swedish mechanic, which includes free pickup and delivery.

---

WILDCARD: Lincoln LS
RWD
A bit short on power, Duratec V6 is overwhelmed
Clutch feels heavy
Shift pattern is odd, reverse is to the left of first gear
A bit heavy, but within reason considering the size of the car
Shifts reasonably well with short throws
Gobs of comfort
Outstanding platform
Excellent steering and handling
Very difficult to find with the right price and condition
Sound system is completely forgettable
No nav
Big American sedan + manual transmission = Awesome
Interior is well made with high quality leather and beautiful wood trim, but it smells like a Mercury Sable :/

---

CHINESE FOOD
MSG is bad
Too much salt
Good value for money
Broccoli beef sometimes includes broccoli that isnt fully cooked
Sweet and sour chicken is occasionally too sweet without enough sour
Feels good, man

Keep the volvo. It sounds like a solid vehicle. Volvo's aren't suppose to be fun to drive they are meant to be comfortable reliable daily transportation where as a saab is more performance oriented. And chinese food is always a bad idea.

I have been wanting to throw this Question at you as why do you chose Volvo’s and Saabs? Why not take a little time and search for another car maker like BMW or Infinity/Nissan or Toyota Etc. Test drives are free and you might stumble on another car that you might like better. Don’t get me wrong your Volvo is nice and your Saab is a classic as they don’t make the convertibles anymore. You have a tough decision on your hands to what to do between the both of them.

G35 sedan (earlier body) with 6spd trans.

I really like them, I drove my ex-boyfriend's father's 2003 G35 fairly often and it had a slushbox. Very nimble/well composed for its size on the twisties and the VQ just loves being romped on. Excellent brakes (like my 300zx brakes!) and great steering feedback. If I were to change anything on the car would be slightly stiffer springs for less body roll (which is already not so bad compared to other sedans) and nicer wheels/stickier tires. Otherwise I loved the way it handled.
I was drunk with power driving that car as the designated driver on a trip home from Victory Brewing Co. So. Fun. I want a VQ in my S13.

I've had 30-35 cars in 12 years built in Japan, the UK, the US, Finland, Sweden, Canada, and Germany. Consider it an ongoing world tour. :)

Teh rangoon is a fifty-fifty choice. I occasionally get bad rangoons which result in many trips to the bathroom.

Theyre not that cheap yet, are they? I like them a lot but demand seems high.

Meh, my 240 is quirky enough to have one (like an old person's soul). I want a 2001-ish NB Miata.. well that's what I've been currently jonesing on. :P
But I know I'll miss throwing stuff into the back seat.

Obvious troll is obvious.
Saab has been GM's play thing since 1995 Captain Slow. Of course now it is no longer.

Saab is owned by Spyker now

Keep the Volvo, I think Saabs are cool but I'm a bigger fan of the Volvo's. At least drive it a few more months and see how you like it. It sounds like a very well maintained vehicle.

I ran across a 98 S70 T5 today locally for $3,900 and was very tempted by it. I don't think I can sell the wife on it though... Hey i'll swap ya the I30 for the Volvo

I HATE undercooked broccoli. Theres nothing worse than biting into half cooked mush. Either crispy and fresh or soggy and over cooked.

Speaking of soggy and overcooked, I have never been in a car with more noises coming from various interior panels than an LS. I don't understand how that hing is even on your radar.

Well, if you're going to keep the car for a decent amount of time, stay with the Volvo. Gobs more reliable than any Saab.

But seeing as you don't keep your vehicles, it really doesn't matter.
