This is my first post but i've been reading nico forums for along time now. I had a 350z vortech s/c and sold to pay off some bills and got a 97 s14. It's just now i have some questions so what better why is to ask the people that have done the swap. I've read alot of post and alot of searches (pros and cons). Just need feed back and i know i should do what i would like but i want to know what would be the best thing.First, how much can the stock bottom end hold on the rb25 and how much power can you make on pump gas? (i've read some people make 400whp on a stock bottom end on pump gas, with a big turbo, is this ture).Second, is the rb25 alot better than the sr20 for the money? (want to make around 400whp)If you guys could give me any feed back or any links and other searches to help me make my mine up. The time is almost here to pick which motor, help me make the right chose. any help would do thanks guys.

ok i will post first just because u had vortech 350z and i want to know how did the split second box work for you because its causing me oo have crank pos errors, ok as far as your question goes

1) 90 % of all RBs were taken from japanese junkyards and shipped here in masse. Well yes the rb25 can make 400 somewhat reliably if you keeps revs down, people have done it before in the past. Its just that when you take a motor from a performance and you dont clean it up (plugs, new belts, maybe new gaskets ) i dont think it will reliabby hold the power

as far as sr20 comparison, i personally think KA > SR and RB > SR so there you go, i think tha since you have a newer 240 and if your KA is in good shape keep it and for around 2500 you could have a 350hp KA whereas at 3500 range for a proper rb25 swap, will get u a 280 hp RB25

400+ on a stock bottom end is no big deal. Just have to buy supporting mods.

Better than SR? Dunno, they are different animals. Different TQ curves etc..

If I knew then what I know now, I would more than likely have run a 26dett and cranked boost up.

Just remember that the RB is a big boy 6-cylinder motor. Costs more to build, repair, maintain, and run (in general, chill with the nitpicking)

The only thing I recommend, DO NOT buy a Neo-series RB25. They aren't worth the money in parts nor headaches.

Agreed, if you want a reliable car (i.e. daily driver) SR is probably the way to go. I have an RB20 and will never go back, but I gave up daily driving it after about 8 months because I was going broke just trying to keep it on the road (motor was pretty much thrown in it when I bought it).

An RB is going to be expensive to swap in properly(i.e. everything gone over so that it is relatively reliable). Aftermarket parts are also more expensive and harder to find. My RB consumed my life for the first year I had it, literally. Spending all of my free time researching stuff, buying stuff, working on it, etc.

SR's are proven, parts are dirt cheap, knowledge is easily found, etc. Is the RB a better engine? In my opinion, yes. Is the RB a more economical choice, probably not.

remember in post to when he said around $3500 for the rb swap he meant that just for the install not the actual motor or any other parts
