The problem with using aftermarket HUs with Bose isn't connections or adaptors. It's the Bose EQ, which is oddball and designed specifically to work with Bose headunits. Using non-Bose headunits with Bose speakers results in bad EQ, poor sound quality, background interference or humming, etc. Using something like CleanSweep or swapping out the WHOLE system give you a "clean slate" for your new HU rather than an incompatible static setup.

Fuctionally, any head unit can be adapted to work with your stock Bose system. But it won't sound as good as it should.

aha...that explains a lot of poor sound quality when i don't have the stereo blasting, and i thought it was just speaker rattle from dust/torn cones. i'm probably going to switch my bose speakers to pioneer anyways because after 13 years they have the right to sounding somewhat off.

thx for the explanation MoD.
