Axle swap? The best way to convert a 6 bolt Nissan hub to a 5 bolt style is to invest in a complete set of wheel adapters. Many 4x4 guys use them to gain a bit more track width on their trucks/suvs' but sometimes people will buy them to allow for more wheel options.
Just about any serious off road shop can get them and so can a few wheel distributors. They are not cheap though. They usually run $50-$60.00 each and can go up from there. Many if not all of them are made out of billet aluminum which makes them tough as hell.
Click to see the imageHere's an example of a stock chevy bolt pattern (the holes are what is called a 5 on 4.75 pattern. The studs are a 5 on 5.5 (Typical Ford or early model suzuki sammy).
Most Nissan trucks up to 2004 (Frontiers, Xterra's, Pathfinders, Hardbody's or D21's and even the older pre 1986-720's and pre 1970-620's) have the largest hub openings of any import truck. Yes even bigger than many 6 bolt Toyota's. The thing to watch here is on the rear axle. The little 1/4" stub that sticks out just past the brake drum is quite large and can cause interference with some wheels. I have had many different sets of Nissan wheels and I can tell you even some of these won't fit every Nissan truck listed above.
For example: The base model argent grey wheels that came on every XE Xterra and Frontier in 2000 will not fit on a 1995 Hardbody 4x4 because of the Hardbody's large axle stub diameter. This is why wheel adapters can work so well. They can eliminate that issue just by their flush surface design.
