ok. i am trying to remove my intake manifold and I am have trouble with one bolt. I have broken 2 12mm sockets. I was wondering if there is a trick to getting this bolt out (see pics). It seems that the runners are too close and are preventing my ratchet from turning all the way, red areas are where the ratchet hits. I would rather not round out this bolt in frustration so please help.

get a long enough extension and maybe a wobble(sp?) socket(the 1 that you can move the 12mm socket with and still be able to turn) and yer 12mm, then you should be ablt to turn the ratchet a lot more and not break anything:).(i just did this like 3 days ago, took out the manifold & head to find out the head can't be fixed, so now am lookin for a relly cheap(if not free) cylinder head as am almost out of funds)

Get a swivel socket it lets you take out any nut any direction. Thats if you have a air compressor tho i'm not sure if you could do it by a racket

You can get swivel sockets to work on regular ratchets, you dont need an air compressor to use it. Also, try to use a long extension with a 12mm socket on the end, like TheOne suggested.

Are you going to remove the cylinder head? If so, it's easier to remove the whole assembly with manifold attached and then remove it when the head is out.

If you're not removing the head and just want the collector out, you might want to try a ratcheting wrench (gear wrench or craftsman make them).

Or, remove the lower plenum and then remove the upper.

I tried to take the lower plenum off first but I couldn't get it loose. I am pretty sure I have all of the bolts out, I think I pulled 7. I wiill check when I get home. I cant locate anymore bolts. If someone has a pic of the locations of all the bolts for the lower plenum that would be extremely helpful. I would normally refer to my manual, but its lost in the mail....I went out got a ratcheting wrench (craftsman) and the wrench itself is too large to spin in there. So I bought a 10" extension and that worked for the first (above culprit) but wont reach the one I cant reach now.
