well, my driver door is on its second replacement door latch [2000 durango].

the door lock solenoids suck. this time instead of just replacing it, i took the door latch apart to see if i could repair it.

low and behold the jammed solenoid is sealed in the plastic above the latch. no way to get to it. at least it fails in the unlocked position. otherwise i would have been REAL pissed.

i hate taking door latches out. its such a pain in the ***.the control rods are the worst. manuvering the latch around the window track comes in a close second.

at least the replacement latch is only $60.

replaced ball joints about a month ago.

new ones should be fine. i used TRW joints with grease fittings.

overall its a dissapointment. the leather does a decent job of hiding the really bad [quality] interior.

the 5.9L gets a whopping 9.5 average MPG. i havent had any bad problems with it yet. if i couldnt work on it myself, i would have spent alot of money on repairs.

the ball joints were $50 each, and the latches are $60.if i didnt do the work, it could have been over $1000.

it took me 3 hours to remove and replace the door latch. it would have been quicker, but i took the bad latch apart to see if i could fix it. the solenoid was shorted/jammed and was inaccessable.

the only hard part about the ball joints was getting the torsion bars off the lower control arms, removing the arms, and then taking them to my old job to use the press. that was 4 hours of me taking my sweet *** time. the latch was harder to replace.

basically, i liked the durango when it first came out, and wanted one. .

it is the first and most likely the last american car i will ever buy.

kinda sad...

I remember a time when american cars rocked...

ok, not really, I was born in the 80's afterall.

I want to remember a time when they rocked goddamnit.

I wish we had some CEO's and beancounters that gave a **** about the actual product and not the sales of said product. I wish they'd show some balls and not be the butt of jokes in the rest of the automotive world. We a country more the ****in' capable of making world class quality automobiles that can win world class competition and world class praise. Pisses me off...I think another 100 or 200 dollars on a sticker price would be worth it for halfway decent interior and parts that work more then a few ****in' years. Hold a fine new American firearm then drive a "fine" American car, helluva difference. Sure they're in different categories of machines entirely, but think about what points they're graded on. Fit, finish, reliability and performance. Hold a Kimber 1911 style pisol, straight outta Yonkers NY. no rattles, shakes or clangs when shaken. impecable finish with no signs of machine marks. Reliabilty. hell, I've yet to personally see one jam. Performance, better then about any out of the box pistols, especially the ones in the same price range. With features seen previously only on custom jobs. The price? Hell, 800 dollars can get you a gun that'll hang with some 2000 dollar competition. Granted, cars aren't quite like guns, but goddamn, is it that hard to build a well built and designed car at a reasonable price? damn right it is, the Japanese and Koreans are. Why the hell can't we?

There's some Suits in desperate need of some most severe groin kicking.

Ive had more than my fair share of problems wiht my 240sx. I would never argue that a japenese car is better built than any american car.
