i recently replaced my s14 ka with an s13 ka. i got rid of the vacume hoses on the intake manifold, as well as heating hose. i ran new hose strait from pump area to the lower heatercore hose. it kept overheating so i changed the thermostat. the thermostat had a copper little thing in the airhole at the top that i cut off to hopefully bleed the air out better through the thermostat. their seems to be an endless stream of airbubbles coming out from the coolant bleeder screw. i got them all out pretty much, but the top hose still gets hot and the bottom one stays completely cold while the engine overheats. should i get a new waterpump or do i need to do something else. Thanks a lot for any help, and sorry for the long post

it had some rod knock which led to a piston going through the block, and some valves ending up in the oil pan, when i bled the coolant out of the motor it looked a little rusty, could the waterpump blades have rusted away?

if your lower radiator hose stays cold, your thermostat is not opening up. did u install the thermostat backwards?

no it is installed correctly, their is a little hole in the top so even if it didnt open, which i think it is, the tube would still get warm

If the thermo was installed correctly (hole points upwards) then you probably just have some air in your system still. If you can elevate the front, undo the air bleeder bolt (signified by little yellow sticker) fill your radiator until coolant flows out of that hole like old faithful. Cap it with the bolt, continue to fill your radiator with coolant. Cap the radiator when all full, squeeze your upper radiator hose repeatedly. Check under the radiator cap. Fill more. Start up your motor, go out front, squeeze your upper radiator hose again, do this for about a minute. Go back and shut off your car. Let it cool, and in the mean time squeeze your radiator hoses. when it's cooled off a bit, check under the cap and fill. Keep doing this until your coolant levels are nice and high in the radiator, that should keep you from overheats.
