I'm new here and i've read some similar questions so I see I am not alone with this issue. I just bought a 2003 G35 coupe yesterday on Ebay. It has only 19,000 and the seller had an excellent reputation. I drove it home about 700 miles and after a few hundred checked the oil and noticed it looked really dirty so thought I should change it when i got it home. I now see a sticker that suggests it was changed just before I bought it. Is there any way the oil could be so dirty with only 300 miles use?

Today I see it is burning oil - black smoke when I start it and black residue in the exhaust pipe and on the ground behind it.

I'm taking it to a dealer in the next day or two but wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.

Thanks a lot.

Welcome aboard!

If the oil was actually changed 300 miles prior to you buying the car, then there is no way on earth the oil should be dirty or black. Either it was changed, which I think is the case or there is a serious oil consumption issue. Either way, have it checked out and might as well start an oil consumption test as well from the dealer with fresh oil.

The black residue on the exhaust isn't oil, should be just exhaust gases from rich conditions. My G will occasionally blow out smoke on start up as well, but thats only if it sits for quite a few days. Doesn't seem to be burning any oil either.
