As everyone knows, I've been having problems wiht my rebuilt ka24e. I waited around 1500 miles until I changed my oil to 5w-30 Mobil 1 synthetic. I've had nothing but problems with the motor since almost day 1. I know the oil isn't the cause of the problems, but I'm sure at this point it may not be helping anything. Currently, the head is off the car, and it is awaiting the parts it needs for a headgasket install and a few other minor things from the rebuild company. I was wondering if I should change back to DINO oil for around 5,000 more miles. The motor feels sluggish with the current oil set up and I'm thinking it may not be properly broken it at the current time. Just wondering, thanks. Also, what DINO oil and filter would you suggest I use?

break in is usually about 500 mi. do a tune-up if things are bad. check the o2 sensor, coolant temp. sensor, and spark plugs. fuel injectors may also be leaking. you are probobly runing too rich, as for the mobil 1, keep it in, it can only help.

For break in on a rebuild:

GTX 10w-30 or Chevron Supreme 10w-30 (great value too and just as good as the "big Dino names" maybe better)In summer, same brands in 10w-40.

Filter: The Nissan OEM filter is very good. Also for the price, the ($2.2) Walmart Supertech filter is simply outstanding and as good as many more expensive filters and better than some more expensive filters.

That's interesting. Would you say that it's better than the OE filter?

Who makes the Walmart filters?

Man...I love asking you oil questions, Fred! :D

so then fred, do you recommend I switch back to dino oil for a while. I'm gonna ignore the firs tpost because it is totally irrelevant to what i was asking. all those things he named have been replaced and my car runs great. I just want to know if i should switch back to dino oil for a while before going to full synethetic.

1) No the OEM is better.2) Champion labs. Same folks who make AC delco and many others, it amazes me how Walmart can offer the ST's at this price.

I won't be able to make it to the meet. The car won't be finished with the head gasket till later next week. I will be in florida till next sunday, so i'll miss the meet all together. I wish I could make it, but my parents are makin me go. I'll have to come down this summer definitely.
