I didn't want to jack that other guys thread...so i started my own..sorry

I have a couple of leaks in my Z and i was wondering if i could get some clues as what it might be.

First Leak:On my oil filter and "fling" everywhere (transmission etc); maybe rear main, or oil sending unit???

Second Leak:Appears to be my power steering pump, leaking on my alternator and alternator belt, but it is oil...not PS fluid (PS reservoir is not low). It will leave a little puddle on shop floor after sitting a few days also.

I have some Gunk engine cleaner, and i was going to clean it up and find it...but i was looking for some guidance at what the most probable suspects would be....thanks

do your stated cleaning then start looking for it. i had a bad one in my na and i htought it was rear main so i did it when i did the clutch and it wasnt realyl leaking so that wastn the main cause then i did valve covers thats didnt help much although they were leaking it turned out i finally found my oil leak after blowign up and pulling the motor... it was teh rear oil pan seal...it was basically gone i discovered when i tiled the motor slightly backwards( more then it sits naturally) and i saw it pour out of hte back haha...bad part you have to pull the motor or drop teh k member to change out... or be mcguyver

Most commonly the lower cam covers leak. Nissan used only a sealant on these, and over the years it hardens and shrinks leaving the covers susceptible to leaking. The plenum needs to be pulled and the covers removed and resealed. I use Permatex Copper and it's excellent and won't leak again if the surfaces are properly cleaned.Another source of engine oil leak in that area can be the oil pressure sending unit or the filter tree. It does get "flung" around due to the engine fan and air movement.

Normally rear seal leak will show up more on the underside of the trans bellhousing and not on the side of the engine dripping on the exhaust, but this is very common to leak as well.

The high pressure power steering hose is very common to leak at the crimped fittings. It will drip on the alt and ruin it in time. Sometimes the fluid in that area can be deceiving and it gets discolored from all of the oil and grease buildup over the years and looks more brown that red when it hits the ground. Does your PS fluid go down over time?

Putting the car on a hoist makes it the easiest to research the leaks as you can use a good flashlight to look up at the side of the engine etc

Yeah i was thinking the PS as it was low after my rebuild and i add some every once in a while, but the reservoir is confusing as is....you can add and it overfills, then sucks it down and i can keep doing this for a while....hard to tell amount gone. If this is the leaker, you think just tighten the clamps and on the reservoir to pump and other clamps and clean up and see if it stops? Also the oil sending unit if probably what I'm looking at. I meant to get these leaks fixed a while back, but I've been upgrading the sound system and fixing my skip and getting new struts...got put on the back burner.
