I am still chasing down oil leaks on a Y33. I changed the leaking VTC solenoid on the passenger side near the oil fill cap. That area is now bone dry. Now I have been watching oil leak down the orange oil filter drain tube. At first, I thought I did not install the oil filter properly and I was having a leak at the oil filter. But then I completely cleaned the outside of the orange tube. After a few days of driving, oil is clearly running down the outside of the tube, not the inside. So I started hunting around above the tube and I see another solenoid that is covered with oil, especially the entirety of the wire harness. A leak there would drip right onto that orange fill tube. I also looked and felt right above the solenoid's wire harness. Not much moisture there, which is the lower side of the vcg. So I think that solenoid is an oil leak problem.

What is the name of that solenoid? It screws into the engine block right behind the oil filter and has a harness on top very similar to the VTC solenoid.

Is that solenoid prone to leaking?

Does anybody have a part number or a link to the part?

This one looks like a bit more of a pain to get at than the one I just changed which was right on top of the engine.

Has anybody changed out the solenoid? What is involved?

Been doing some more research. Looks like this leaking part is the oil pressure sending unit. Did some reading on those in this forum and it does sound like they can leak fairly well. It is not in a great spot for access, but I can put my fingers on it.

Anybody know how the wire harness releases?

Any tips or tricks for getting the leaking sending unit out?

yup, those leak.
I accessed it from the top on the fgy33.
it's the single blade switch--squeeze between thumb and forefinger-push slightly toward the goo, and then slide it back cleanly away.

this was the switch i was referring to a few weeks ago as an example of known body to dielectric leakers.
also, you can 'practise' connector removal with the coolant needle sensor (the one on top of the water neck near the upper radiator cap). same design.

Thanks. I will practice on that other sensor by the radiator cap. I am anxious to get the oil pressure sending unit replaced because I think it is leaking more than the drivers side valve cover gasket. That will slow down the oil on my garage floor until I can get to the vcgs.

so I was forgetful about the electrical config of the switch (im blaming old age and doing the job over 10 years ago),
the connector is still thumb and forefinger, but it is a 2 blade switch, the pics in the link should give an idea.....

That is a scary thread you linked. Sounds like the author might have cracked his oil filter housing while removing the oil pressure sending unit. Are the sending units known to be screwed in super tight?
