My wife is the primary driver of our Versa. She doesn't notice sounds in a car like I will. Anyhow, this weekend I heard a very distinctive squeeking sound coming from the back. At first I thought it might be the rear hatch. I pulled over and had my wife drive while I sat in the back seat. It wasn't the hatch. After moving all around and sticking my ear everywhere (and making myself half car-sick) I was able to locate the noise. It's coming from the rear axle area on the driver's side. After we got home I crawled under to see what I could see. The muffler is right there and it's suspended with rubber hangers. I thought that might be it, but moving it around by hand didn't replicate the sound. I even had my son bounce the car up and down while I was under there, but I can't make it happen. I don't know if it's the shock/strut, the muffler, or what it might be. Has anyone else had such a noise in your Versa?

Does the noise change in pitch/frequency in relation to the speed of the vehicle? It sounds like it might be coming from the left/rear brake assembly. If that's the case, you might want to have the brakes adjusted/inspected/cleaned. This should be under warranty.

No, the sound is more of a squeekity-squeek-squeek (technical term) that occurs when driving down the road. It seems to have more to do with body flex and/or bumps in the road, than speed. It really seems to me like it would be either the shock or the muffler mounts somehow. It's just irritating that I can't make it happen by bouncing the car while it's parked. If it continues I will definately take it in to the dealership for warranty repair. I just know how this type of thing goes...it'll take them forever to figure it out.
