So I just got my z on the road this spring, its a 91 n/a. I drove it for two days this weekend with no problems until i found that my alternator was overcharging the system. At idle it read 13.5, as soon as it revd it shot up to 15-16 volts, up to 18-19 under load. I drove it up to school (30 miles) and my climate control and radio were going in and out (losing power and then getting it back) along with my lights flickering. Replaced the alternator and now i cant get it to start, i can hear the fuel pump engaging when I turn the key but it wont catch or even attempt to hold idle. Anything specific i should look for in the electrical system that may have blown or been damaged? any input would be appreciated, im at a dead end. :wtf2:

Hm, have you checked all your grounds?

What do you mean by "it won't catch or attempt to hold idle"?

Start with the basics. Pull codes first. If nothing, then pull your CAS, and check the injectors and coil packs are firing. If you don't find anything there, pull your plugs, check to see if they are wet or have been firing. Report back what you find.

I drove it the whole weekend with no problem but i think I fried the fuel pump (checked all fuses under hood and in the kick panel along with the fusible link). What I mean by wont attampt to hold idle is the engine just keeps cranking over and over so I dont think its the starter, I have also checked all the grounds on the EFI harness as well as the alternator harness, nothings loose and im 100% sure i put the alt in correctly. I just went out and tried to start it and the fuel pump doesnt prime when the key is "on", i ordered a walboro last night which should be here on monday. The pump was making noise all weekend even when running and driving it was whining pretty loud, could the old alt overcharging cause the pump to blow without blowing any relays / fuses?

edit: ohm tested the injectors last week and they all check out, tps is calibrated, compression is good along all 6 cylinders, everything in the EFI harness is packed with dialectic grease, power balance test checked out good and timing is correct

ok so i tried to crank it over again, pulled plugs on cylinder 1 and 2, theyre dry. Also checked for spark (grounded the plug to the strut tower bolt) got nothing on both cylinders.

edit: grounded plug to the plenum, engine is getting spark but no fuel

First, make sure you have +12v to each injector. Measure each side to ground, one side should have voltage. If that is ok, then pull your CAS, turn your engine to run, turn the cas and listen for a click. Each injector should click. If your injectors are clicking, then check pressure...
