First off, hello, and big on a terrific website. O.K. here's the deal. Bought this little beast Sunday, they dropped it off this morning:1969 Datsun 1600 pickup!

The only problem is gonna be getting it to run. The last owner decided it would be cool to drop in a later model engine from a 240SX:

There are some pieces missing: MAF sensor, radiator and exhaust pipes. But everything else is there including the wiring harness and computer for the engine.

Notice the 6 lug rims? There's disk brakes up front and a 3/4 ton differential! Custom balanced driveshaft, too.

Got a bunch of extra parts: extra racing tranny. new gas shocks, new door panels, extra driveshafts, extra front grill and headlight trims (look like new!) extra instrument cluster, more little stuff that I won't list.

Basically, I need to figure out the wiring from the engine to the truck which shouldn't bee too hard. And figure out exactly which engine that is. Time to buy a couple of Chilton's. Wish I had the factory books (like I do for my Z) but oh well.

Any pointers and advice is welcome. I'll be back later. TIA, Chris.

Well now I'm wondering if it would just be easier to get a different intake and a Weber carb for this thing. The wiring is a total mess. Still trying to ID the motor, it has 40F stamped on the block, timing cover and head. Ideas anyone? Chris.

Thanks, Darens! Now I can get busy.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, My, that Weber carb/ manifold setup you linked to is totally awesome! Makes me wonder who else makes a custom manifold for these heads? I have seen the "40f" is used on a lot of different Nissan motors. Ahhh, so much to do! Chris.

Well, crap. Another week of looking everywhere to try and find an alternative to fuel injection on this motor. Lots of expensive options that I just cannot afford. And the EFI system needs so many little parts that are missing (like the MAF sensor) that either way it's gonna cost a lot more that I was anticipating to get this truck running.

One would think, with all the 240SX's out there, there would be more options for an intake manifold/ carb setup. But searching for one is giving me more gray hairs (than I already had! ) Chris.

Nice project!

FYI, all the 521's were 6 lug and the disk brake swap for the front is reasonably common, as it the KA-E swap from the s13's. Shouldn't be horrible to get it running with some junkyard s13 parts. If you pick up a 521 service manual and an s13 (89-94 240sx) service manual you should have all you need to get it pieced together.

Watch ebay for the factory service manuals. Nice little truck I hope you get it done so you can enjoy driving it. There is a lot of KA swap info on Ratsun Forum. Also a guy onthere the makes & sells KA swap harnesses. Good luck with the build.
