I posted this on ka-t.org, but figured I'd throw it out there for you guys;

Newly built motor, the block/head are from an S13 the motor is in an S14. Intake manifold is from an S14. Enthalpy tuned ECU, AMS Adv rebuild kit (if that matters) along with a bunch of other stuff. Stabbed the dizzy about a 1,000 times, it's definitely not that. When I swapped dizzys it only took me two stabs to get it right on the host car so I've got the process down

Swapped distributors, same thing. Swapped spark plug wires, same thing. All the intercooler piping is on and all loose vacuum lines (that I know of) are blocked. At one point I got the car where it would regularly 'start' if I gave it gas on startup and it would idle really rough, like a harley or something. If at any time I take my foot off the gas it dies. This as done by putting it in some crazy degree of timing, I don't even want to guess where it was. Pressing the gas any more doesn't increase RPMs either, they just float around 800 with the lopey idle.

Ruled Out:ECUDistributorPlug wiresInjectorsMAF

Theory:Some sort of leak in the intake manifold area. Either the gaskets arn't doing their job or maybe the EGR blockoff plate or maybe some random vacuum line under the manifold didn't get blocked. Would a leak-down test show this?

Any other theroies are welcome, I really really want to drive this thing

probably timing:), ain't that easy to set timing on a ka, the car would still start fine, tho it would not idle right if it had a vacuum leak, now if it had a huge leak somewhere in the intake manifold then yeah it'd probably die right away.

I'm 85% positive it's not timing

you can make a pressure tester. get a plastic cap and drill a hole in it, and put an air fitting in that hole. clamp the assembly on your turbo inlet and pressurize to 10 psi or so. get a bottle of soapy water and spray everywhere and watch closely for bubbles. im having similar problems and redoing some things and wont find out till monday on how things turn out. i may have to do the same test on my car as well. cept when my car ran i could rev it to wherever i wanted. it would just die instantly if i let my foot off the gas. i know all my timing is correct as well too. let me know if you find anything out on ka-t.org and post up in here.

A guy on ka-t.org posted he thinks it's definitely a leak after the MAF.

The more I think about it the more I'm thinking it's a leak somewhere in the intake manifold like I said before. I forgot I have one of those leak-tester thingys. I'll clamp it on tonight or tomorrow and try the soapy water trick. Hopefully I'll see where she's leaking from. I'll let you know what I find. If that doesn't work, I'm towing it to a shop. Thanks j-z
