On my recent visit to local infiniti dealer to change out to a new fuel pump to see if that would solve my accerleration issue, I mention that a previous test showed the KS popped a code just at the time when the drag on acceleration occured. He stated (also says he was once a tech for BMW) that changing to a heavier oil sometimes solve KS problems in BMW's and Mercedes.Any logic behind that idea???As I said before new fuel pump made no change and new FPCU also made no change. Cold car no problem but with 20 minutes the drag occurs.

I have no idea about the heavier oil, But I would think that's a "Snake oil" theory.

To prove that's is the KS for sure you can read this old thread: zerothread/150218

The last thing you could probably do is replace the ECM, Because you have replace almost ever other thing I can think of.

But you car feels the same after 20 min after a hot soak and a cold start? In laymen term you car always feels the same no matter what after 20 min?

I have never heard that theory for Infiniti... or any car for that matter. The only thing I can think of, is that a thicker oil would slow the rotation of the pistons a bit, in essence retarding the timing advance a bit...

Either way this is a BAD IDEA unless your engine's tolerances are already loose and you're trying to reduce oil consumption. If you're not burning a good bit of oil, I would stick with the recommended weight.

I have heard that bad knock sensors on a '96 Q45 (with it's OBDII ECU) will have a greater impact on driveability than on the older Q45.

The ECU should store those codes... are there any in there when they run the scan?

Given all of the time and expense you have put in to this car, I think you need a true expert with a Consult. Finding one without driving to San Diego and getting Jerry Tucker to come out of retirement might be an issue though...
