My Q now starts in 1st gear only and won't shift!

Two things very unusual about this are, one, I put the 92 active TCU back in the Q until my ECU is returned from JWT. That 92 TCU starts in second, not first, so what is going on? Secondly, I can manually put the Q in 2nd and I'm actually in 2nd gear not 1st....... sometimes..!!

This to me sounds like an electronic snafu. Could this be a bad speed sensor or something? This JDM tranny has about 2500k on it from me and that's it. What could cause the TCU to be totally ignored? The tranny never slipped or made noise or anything like that.

Since all the work was done on the engine I'm thinking when they reset things or did whatever they did something wrong.

The car Idles higher now and sometimes, when stopped at a light it revs up then down, up then down and sometimes it sounds like it wants to stall. That doesn't happen all the time, but sometimes.

Any ideas?

I'll be taking the car bake to the shop sometime next week since I'm working everyday. They'll be hooking up the consult and see what codes it's throwing.

After all that work done on the car, this is painful.

I really don't know much about the problem, but I did look at the FSM and saw that there is an electrical connection from the active suspension control unit and the transmission control unit. No idea what it does or why it would be there. Is your active control unit still installed? Or do you think it has nothing to do with your car's active-ectomy?

Good luck!

A pre-1993 TCM will start in second unless it is WOT, or 1 is selected. If 2 is selected, it willstart in 2, unless floored.

My "TCM" is the OEM TCU for a 92 Q45a and it starts in 1st and will not shift. This is intermittent. There is no "1" to select as this is not a tri-mode "TCM".

What could cause this to happen? Speed sensor? Could something have become disconnected from the tranny or engine that would cause this. Like I said it does not always happen. In the morning it's been ok. Later in the day this happens.

To clarify, I presume you select 1 with the shift lever in the lowest position in the shift gate? If so, then it is working correctly.

No OEM pre-1993 TCM starts in 1 without WOT or shift selector being in position 1.

Mine does. That's what I'm trying to say. While in "D" with the shift selector my car is starting in 1st gear with a pre 93 oem TCM and not shifting at all. I can take it all the way to redline and it won't go into 2nd. That's why I'm asking about speed sensors and stuff like that. It's not normal. Remember I have 3 different TCM's and they all do the same thing. I'm not crazy. The tranny gave no indication of problems before all my engine work was done.

The only way I can get second gear is first thing in the morning(while in "D" the car will work normally), or putting the shifter in "2" This is just to strange. This needs to be in the on line mechanic forum.

I can't get the Q to the shop until next week to use the Consult.

The idle fluctuation sounds like the throttlebody. Has it been cleaned recently? Try cleaning it, and checking the connections to the TPS and CAS.

The tranny problem does sound like something is unplugged.

Try unhooking the battery for a long time, and re-check all the plugs under the car and under the hood.

Not very technical advice, sorry.

I took my Q to the shop today to see if they can find out why, once it warmed up and started again, it won't come out of 1st gear. I also tasked them with getting my antenna to work again as it has been replaced and still doesn't want to work.

I have a bad TPS sensor and that's what is causing this 1st gear problem. $123.00 from Joe.
