Ok there seems to be a lot of discussion about which intake to use on the coupes.

I was at the Nissan dealer yesterday, and for the hell of it I priced out the Nismo CAI. My cost on it (I work at another local dealer) is 196.95. This is about $100.00 less then most sites.

My question is, is this worth the $$$$?

Opinions, comments, data, will all be great help.

The sound alone is worth it!

Well you allready ordered it but you will see no gain in power just a better sound. The real problem with these so called cold air intakes is that the aluminum piping transmits more heat into the supposedly cold air that the cold air kit gives to the engine.

They do not work with the VQ engine no matter what the ricer math tells you.

Well we will see what my "RICER" but dyno says after I install it.

Colder air = Denser air. Denser air= more HP.

To a degree,he's correct. You will have a better sound, but the average gain from an intake on our cars is less than 5HP.

IMHO, the sound makes it completely worth the money.

I never expected it to give me 50 hp. I know that CAI only give a few hp. But anytime you can move air in and out of an eng. more effecently, you will 1: make more power, and 2 get better economy.( if you can keep the right foot under conrtol)

I am not unrealistic on the gains. I do know a few things about engines and tuning. I spent the last 6 yrs building and AWD Talon that made 425 awhp. And yes I did all the work myself and had some help on the tuning.

Just for some back ground on me. I'm an ASE Master Tech. VW Expert Tech (1 class from master) I have been working on cars for a profession for 7 yrs. 10 ys before that as a hobby. During that time I was a helicopter mechanic for 10 yrs.

Well installed the CAI tonight. Got it finished up about 10 min befoe it rained. I did get a chance to "test drive" it. The sound is GREAT. It really lets you know the eng. is doing something. Esp. over 400 rpm. As for the butt dyno. It fells like it did pick up some power in the upper rpms.

I was amazed at how resrictive the stock intake was. There were entirely too many baffel chambers. And it cleans up the eng. bay nicely.

Glad you like it. I enjoyed the sound when I put mine in. Then I got the Greddy EVO2 exhaust, and that just made it more musical.

If your crazy like me, there is a great option to get a little more umph out of your CAI. For the 2 door g35's, there is a foam like think behind the front bumper. There is a section where you can remove some of it at it will give you a more direct path to the filter. I used a sharp knife then smoothed the foam stuff down with a lighter and my fingers. You only need to cut away a small section of it to keep the rest of it usable, for whatever purpose it serves. I also cut my intake pipe (Coldair section) for 2 reasons. 1) to get all the fiter exposed to the ram air flow, and 2) to get the filter another 4 to 5 inches off the ground. I figured it would help balance the water intake danger I created. Rain is rain and I just don't drive like a mad man in it.

I don't think the change in pipes will affect the power, at that end. Anyway I do feel the ram air is more worth it too me. I would feel an instant increase in pulling power at all speeds, expecially at higher ones. I did beat my friend with his 2003 350z, short ram intake, manual, but bigger wheels in 3 back to back highway battles. He was pissed.

Get the spacer too! It makes a huge difference with the 03-04 G's. Don't do the MREV2...that's only for the 05+ years (REVUP models)

I did remove the foam block from the bumper in front of the filter. After I installed it i was like WTF. How is this going to get "good" air to it. Then I noticed the plastic block off w/ the foam block. The NISMO CAI comes w/ a bypass valve. So that is deff. installed. No hydro lock for me.

Thanks for the 411 on the intake spacer. I have read alot of post on it and was confused as to which cars it helped/hurt. Now I know. And knowing is half the battle. "Dun Dun GI JOE"
