No properly fun engine. No turbo. No fun.
Just another boring hatch, with an anemic engine and no soul.

Pardon me but if I ever need a new hatch, you will find me at Mazda or Ford...

I think you should hold your judgement-- the Top Gear article (as usual) leaves out some important information. All Pulsar engines are turbos. It is launching with the 1.5l diesel and base 1.2l petrol, which competes with the 3 cylinder ecoboost Focus.

But like the Focus, those aren't the only engines. By the end of the year, the 188 hp1.6l turbo from the Juke is scheduled to join the lineup. Next year, the NISMO model is scheduled to launch with a 266hp 1.8l, which promises to be significantly faster than the Focus ST.

There are hotter versions comming. The base configuration is like the base model in the generation of Pulsar in your image that had around 50hp.

I will wait to see until those models come out then. From Nissan's latest offerings, I wouldn't be surprised if it was only paired with a CVT... :tisk:

A proper hatchback has three doors. I cannot understand why all of today's compact hatchbacks have five. They're all just microwagons anymore.

Honestly the looks of that gtir arent anything amazing. I'm not saying i dislike the old pulsars, but honestly wihout that hood and lip its pretty frumpy. I like the way this new pulsar looks and would love to see nissan build a competitor for the svt hatches.

I kinda like the looks of it. And if it gets the 1.6 turbo, my friend might finally get rid of his Versa. I have no idea how he's driven the same car for 7 years but he really likes it for some reason.

Sorry but when I think of the Pulsar I think of this.

So to whine that the new Pulsar isn't anything like the GTiR is silly if you were born and raised in the USA.

oh wow, i haven't seen one of those in a while. my buddy got one for free back in high school. we taught ourselves basic maintenance and how to drive a manual on that thing. his mother donned it "the racket". let's just say it needed extensive exhaust work.

Ha. +1. When I think Pulsar, I think of a former co-worker's Pulsar "sportback" (circa 1987) . It was a cute little red coupe that came with a gray or black attachable wagon piece, converting it into a pseudo mini-wagon. Kinda clever, but a such tinny little thing. Great gas mileage but not a performance car by any stretch of the imagination.

Yea, Pulsar means something totally different in the US. I don't hate the styling of it, though I'm not excited about the 5 door, but that's becoming common now, not sure why either... maybe to reach a bigger market? Anyway, we'll see what Nissan does. I'm giving up on hating the CVT anymore. They're the way of the future, whether we like it or not. At least as other manufacturers start doing it, the technology will develop and durability will improve. What I DO dislike is the lack of options from Nissan in the transmission department, but that is starting to become common as well. It seems like unless it's a dedicated sports car, the manual has gone by the wayside.

Still they will build them all as FWD hatchbacks. Makes me want to cry. The AWD made it unique and even more amazing. Is there another AWD Hatchback in the market?subaru makes one, anything else?
