I have been researching the different gearbox options for the VH and I was wondering why nobody has brought up the Z31 TT 5 speed. Is it not the same internally as the Z32 from 87 and up? I imagine there are some restrictions I must be missing. I know it's a different case and shifter design but I can't imagine without having mocked one up how it would be more difficult than a Z32 box. I thought this may be a lower cost possibility for those of us who have a hard time locating Z32's period. Which one guys?

That's what I'm using in my swap but only because I already have one and it fits better in my Z31. Here in the states it's much easier to find a z32 5 speed than it is to find a z31t 5 speed. They are extremely hard to come by as most of the z31 guys want them since they swap right in. The z31t and z32na/tt 5 speeds are basically the same desing and adapting them to a VH is the same. So yeah if you can find them easier than a z32 5 speed go for it.

Your having trouble finding a Z32 5 speed?

A late model Z31 turbo 5 speed is about as rare as it gets for us in Aus.

Yes, same internals on the late model Z31 Turbo's. Not sure how the adaptors would work with them though...

Yeah actually I am. A z32 is about almost impossible to find here in Greensboro. (All in North Carolina) I know the market should be healthier in Charlotte and Raleigh but I just can't seem to find the one's that aren't horrendously over priced. It seems like the Z31's here are a dime a dozen. Nobody touches them and they're so plentiful that you can detach something from one come back 3 weeks later to that same yard and just pick it up untouched. I got the seats out of one in near perfect condition for $20 brackets and all. Beats the hell out of s14 seats for $150. I'm just waiting for the right z31 (87+ and turbo) to show up here. Between the 2 junk yards I go to here they probably have 12 of them just mostly auto. It does make me a be happier knowing I won't be the first to use that box.

This thread reminds me of another gearbox. I saw someone using a Toyota R154 with there VH swap. its was pretty cool because all he did is weld a plate on back on the VH auto bellhousing and cut it out to bolt the trans. anybody know am talking about, has anyone gone this route?

You're thinking of Mettler, if I'm not mistaken.
