Another gauge cluster thread...

Well, here we are. What you must first assume about me is that, yes I searched. I'm just tired of all the info I'm basing things off of being about four years old and scattered around Internet forums. Now, I have a 90' xe coupe, red top sr20 swap. Digi HUD cluster. No lights work on the cluster work when I turn the headlights/marker lights on, the hell? Second, assuming I need the capacitor repair done, my speedo nor HUD work, assuming it isn't related to the speedo sensor, because that would atleast display a zero or something (but my odo didn't work either...?). Last, my tachometer does not work, I've read the ignition/tach signal from the ecu on the sr will only work with a JDM DOHC cluster. Is this true, or untrue. I hear alot about dohc KA usdm clusters with sr swaps, but I would prefer to keep my digi dash. Second question, has anyone just taken a 9k JDM tach and put it in a digi cluster? I was going to give it a shot and see what I came up with.

If your speedo or digi hud doesnt work then you rather have wiring issues or your speed sensor is out. For the tach to work with sr you just need a dohc cluster..... Ka or sr. and yes you can take the jdm 9k tach and directly replace the gauge. There are three screws In the back you have to remove, and also take the front of the cluster apart ..... Its not very hard at all.

The guy I bought the car from said the speedo/HUD was intermittent after the swap, and now It doesn't work at all. Speed sensor then? Know any part numbers or how to find it, before I spend the next twelve hours searching.

even with no speed sensor, it will display a Zero....

your cluster is f***.

does any of your other intereor lights turn on? A/C switch? headlight retract button?

might have a blown fuse

All other interior buttons/lights worked, just no cluster lights. And I was assuming it would need the capacitor anyways. Not exactly a heartbreak.

There is some sort of timer box that goes out, but from what I hear is mighty pricy. I personally bypassed the issue and made the lights turn fully on when headlights are on (you just have to figure out which way the electricity flows through the pcb and eire direct accordingly) bypassing the timer box and dimmer switch. As for the speedo, its very simple. Take a look at my signature, ive broke down how the cluster works and how to test it.
