So im an idiot when it comes to wires and electricity and scary stuff like that (i might also just be an idiot in general but that's a different thread). i have these elec fans in my car which have stopped working. seems to me the control unit has crapped out. anyway, i really need a QUICK and EASY fix. i thought that maybe i could just wire them directly to the battery with a fuse and a toggle switch. i've searched and looked at all the wiring diagrams and none have indicated that this was a particularly good idea. what do you guys think? if you do think it's a decent idea, what size fuse/gauge wire do you think i should run? thanks in advance!

I suck at wiring myself, but I went to auto zone or maybe it was kragen...anyways I got this thing called a thermostatic switch, it cost $15 it comes with instructions, to adjust all you do is turn it all the way to the hottest setting and then start the car, let it reach operating temperature and then start moving switch to the colder setting until the fan turns on, watch fingers...then you are done and can fine tune however you see fit...iv been running with this since last year, no problems....hope this helps

well in my setup, all i got is a 30amp fuse on the positive feed cable, a relay and activates with the fuel pump, and then to the fan... so when fuel pump comes in, fan comes in, and voila

cool man. yeah, that does help. a i called up a buddy of mine and he talked me through an easy way of doing it with a relay a fuse and a switch (just a simple series circuit) but i think i'm going to use the thermostatic switch that you mentioned instead of the toggle switch that i am using now. thanks for the help guys!

It may be overkill but when I wire in Elec. Fans in our race cars I use at least 12AWG and a switch rated at 25 Amps. Black Wire of fan to chassis (ground) red wire to switch. Other side of switch to our 100 AMP Kill switch (required by the track) which is wired diredtly to the battery. Crude but works well.

i wired in 2 electric fans one to fuel pump fuse and the other temp switch with the prob that push through the radiator fins. i did notice that the fan going to the fuel pump relay would supply a 1/2 second of back feed once you shut the car down.(act like a old carb car) to fix it i installed a relay and blocking diode problem solved.

I have mine direct, with a light house switch, and when it reach normal temp i just turn them on till it go back to 2 bars top off C and then turn them off.and when it's cool, with the fans on i'll take about 20min of driving to reach normal temp. so i like my rig, dual altima fans, and moshimito or something like that aluminum radiator.and no thermostat, it's to hot down here,
